Statement of Inquiry:
Through personal expression, change can be creatively manifested in many styles.
Please go to Classroom and fill out form in the assignment, “Work with Jovan Mays.” This is to gauge your interest in working in a small workshop with Jovan Mays. If chosen you will meet with him this Friday during one of your elective classes. If you answer, “No,” to the first question you don’t need to complete the rest of the form. When you finish please begin working on the assignment “Elements of Poetry.”

TIME FOR A CHANGE …
Over the next week, your goal is to write one piece of poetry that expresses the theme of change. You could write about a change that is happening in your life or has already happened, you could write about a change that you want to happen in your own life, you could write about a change that is happening in the world or even a change you wish would happen in the world.
After writing your poem you will be competing in a March Madness Poetry Slam bracket to find the best slammer at Summit Middle School!!! So, in other words, this means you will perform the poem that you write. YAY!!!

* You will be graded on the poem you write, NOT on your slam performance.
For your poem, there are very specific requirements. Your poem MUST include at least one example all of the following poetic devices!

* In order to receive a grade for your poem, you must identify
the different poetic elements within your poem.
If you wish to score a 3.5 or 4 on this assignment, you must include an element of symbolism and more than one example of three of the required elements in each poem.
