INSERTING IMAGE

  • Pictures when used in a presentation or animation improve the quality of reception.
  • An image can be inserted on canvas by following ways.
    • Press Ctrl + i to display Import Image dialog box. OR
    • Select Caret 🡪 File 🡪 Import to display Import Image dialog box.
  • Import Image dialog box�shows list of pictures �in the current folder �as shown below.

To resize the imported image, select the image layer in the layers panel.

You change the size of image by dragging the green points.

If you want to move the image then select any one green point �and press Ctrl + A to select all. It will select all the points.

After that you can move the image from any point.``

  • When we resize an image it tends to get distorted.

  • This happens because of we do not maintain aspect ratio.

  • We can also resize an image by inserting scale layer after applying encapsulation to an image.

IMAGE ENCAPSULATION

Right click on the image layer and select encapsulate option.

This will add an inline canvas layer as shown here.

Open up the encapsulated layer using the small triangle and you can

See the image layer inside the inline canvas as shown in figure.

USING SCALE LAYER

steps for resizing image using scale layer.

  • Insert an image.
  • Right click on image layer and select Encapsulate option.
  • Click on black triangle on Inline Canvas option layer to display image layer.
  • Right click on Image layer and select New Layer 🡪 Transform 🡪 Scale option.

  • A scale layer is added inside inline canvas.
  • Click on scale layer and change amount parameter from 0 to -1 in params panel.

USING ROTATE LAYER

steps to rotate an image using Rotate layer.

  • Insert an image.
  • Right click on image layer and select Encapsulate option.
  • Click on black triangle on Inline Canvas option layer to display image layer.
  • Right click on Image layer and select New Layer 🡪 Transform 🡪 Rotate option.
  • A Rotate layer is added inside inline canvas.
  • A duck with dark blue color is seen on the canvas that can be used to rotate an image.

MASKING

Masking is a feature in Synfig that can be used to place the object behind the window and can be moved as if it is coming out from the other object.
