Mission of Student Access & Disability Services

Intake Process

  1. Student should:
    1. Complete a brief registration form.
    2. Provide disability documentation to our office.
    3. Schedule an intake appointment.
  2. Chiquita Hallom (Accessibility Specialist/Student Success Coach) or Katie Simpson (Accessibility Specialist/Student Success Coach) meets with the student, review disability documentation, and discusses the student’s eligibility for accommodations.
    • The accommodations must be reasonable.

Accommodation Letter Process

  • Students, who are eligible for accommodations, must complete an online form each semester to request accommodation letters for their classes.

Accommodation Letters

  1. Register for your classes, and wait 2 days.
  2. Go to www.elgin.edu/ada
  3. Scroll down to “Returning Students.”
  4. Click on “Request Form.”
  5. Log in using your ECC username and password.
  6. Follow the steps to request accommodation letters for your classes.

CASAS Accommodations

  • Contact sds@elgin.edu at least 1 week prior to the pre- or post-test.
  • We notify the Testing Center and request that extra time be added to the test if the student is eligible for extra time.

Practice GED

  • Contact sds@elgin.edu about 1 week prior to the test.
  • Provide us with the voucher.
  • We will call GED to ask them to add the student’s accommodations to the voucher.

Official GED Exam Accommodations

  • Student should contact our office at least 2 months prior to the exam.
  • Official process to request accommodations
    • Strict documentation requirements.
    • May take several weeks for approval.
    • If denied, can appeal decision but may need additional documentation.

  • Student asks you for accommodations, but you didn’t receive the accommodation letter:

  • We will be in Building K for Office Hours from 9:30-10:30am on the following dates:
    • February 6th, 10th, 20th, 24th
    • March 6th, 10th, 20th, 24th
    • April 24th, 28th
    • May 8th, 12th, 22nd, 29th
    • June 2nd, 12th, 16th, 26th
