Effects of Active Learning

Scholars have found that active learning techniques such as problem-solving exercises and case studies can improve students’ retention and understanding of course material (Carr, Palmer, and Hagel, 2015; Chi, 2009; Myers and Jones, 1993; Prince, 2004; Scott et al., 2009)

Why GooseChase Edu?

Goosechase Edu is the combination of the traditional scavenger hunt mixed with a digital platform.

It is the Scavenger Hunt 2.0 as it is interactive (involves pictures, video, and text)

Goosechase Edu can be set up in a matter of 5-10 minutes.

The activity runs itself with very few glitches.

Students report having a lot of fun (higher level of engagement)

3. Any best practices?

  • Teams of 4-6 work best in my experience.
  • One device per team, encourages collaboration
  • Train teams to read notifications
  • Start off with an easy Goosechase of 4-6 questions
  • Integrate curriculum content into future Goosechase activities

4. How do I create a Goosechase?

  • Start off with a simple 3-5 mission Goosechase to train your students with things they will be able to do.
  • After the initial Goosechase, create a Goosechase tied to your class standards.
  • Create missions that address standards and are engaging to students.
  • Modify an existing worksheet or assignment.

Benefits of Goosechase Edu

  • Students are actively engaged (kinesthetic)
  • Students experience the 4Cs: Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, & Creativity
  • Due to the nature of the scavenger hunt, this activity is “gamified” and this motivates students to be active participants
