SS4A program:�Objective - funds regional, local, and tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.��Eligible to fund:�Action Plan Grants (new or complete a plan or perform needed supplemental activities)��Supplemental action plan activities = complete the Self-Certification Eligibility Worksheet.�Self-Certification Eligibility Worksheet: https://www.transportation.gov/grants/ss4a/self-certification-worksheet��Implementation Grants (must have a valid Action Plan) (Mesa does not have a comprehensive action plan as defined by USDOT – why!)

What does it fund - Details��Funding supports local initiatives to prevent death and serious injury on roads and streets, commonly referred to as “Vision Zero” or “Toward Zero Deaths” Initiatives.��$5 billion in appropriated funding, FY22-26 ��Up to $1 billion for this FY22 NOFO

�Inputs��Develop an analysis of existing conditions and historical trends� Baseline level of crashes involving fatalities & serious injuries��Robust engagement with public and stakeholders� Suggestion: Include developing a collaboration/communication plan��Equity:� Plan development using inclusive and representative processes�� Underserved communities* data and other analyses�� Analysis of characteristics and initial equity impact assessments of the proposed projects and strategies.�� * Suggestion: Review NOFO for definition of “underserved communities”����

�Outcomes��Policy & Process Changes��Project Selection & Prioritization� Suggestion: The list should include specific projects and strategies, � or descriptions of programs of projects and strategies, and � explains prioritization criteria used.�� The list should contain :� interventions focused on infrastructure, � behavioral, and/or operational safety��Evaluation and Transparency�� * Suggestion: describe how progress will be measured & how plan will be public and a live-document��

Familiarize with how application will be submitted – ask for assistance - (SS4A) grants were submitted throughGrants.gov.��Please be aware that you must complete the Grants.gov registration process before submitting the final application, and that this process usually takes 2-4 weeks to complete.��Talk to others – familiarize yourself with available data:� Selection & Prioritization� Policy & Process Changes� Feasible and approved countermeasures� Evaluation of Plan and Outcomes� Know if any special “hoops” are involved in making the plan public (transparency)� When in doubt, reach out. � DOT Program Staff are listed in webinars and NOFO documents and� can help when you run into issues and/or guide you to the where to find the information you need.���
