Communication & Grading Policies

  • Students, you know the answers to all of yours and your parent’s questions regarding their grades, late work, or missing assignments.
  • Encourage students to come to me with any questions
  • Encourage your student advocate for themselves
  • I am always available via email - if any problems are not resolved through the student, please contact me via email.
  • Academic Honesty - no plagiarizing or utilizing another student’s work for your own
  • 6th Grade Homework policy states daily homework should be 0-60 minutes per day. No Homework given on Fridays

All grades will be updated via Aeries. Additionally, messages will be sent via Aeries to keep families updated on all assignments, projects, tests, quizzes, etc. Make sure you are checking your emails for updates!

LATE / INCOMPLETE WORK

Late assignments may be submitted up to 2 school days after the due date for a discounted grade. Any work submitted before the end of that grading period will receive a 20% deduction. Missing assignments are not allowed - you will finish them in FLEX. Missing assignments result in failure of the class.

ABSENTEE POLICY

In the event of an absence, you must always request the assignments from me - do not expect me to remember you were absent. You will have as many school days as you were absent to make up the assignment. After those days are up, the late work policy goes into effect. Please get handouts from the bin at the back counter.

TECHNOLOGY

Chromebooks: You will be assigned a number at the beginning of the year. This number will correspond with the number on the Chromebook. Treat Chromebooks with respect. Any vandalism will result in consequences.

Cell Phones: Cell phone use is not permitted during class unless otherwise instructed. Cell phones must be turned off and stowed away in your backpacks for the duration of the school day.

ELA will be taught utilizing novels throughout the year. Please DO NOT read them ahead of time. Possible books are:

FLEX and Expectations

50%

  • Students will be required to come to FLEX if they have missing or incomplete assignments
  • My FLEX fills up quickly - if you cannot sign up, please email me or come to me during passing period
  • 100% effort is always required on everything you do in class
  • RACE - restate, answer, cite, explain - this is expected for all responses

6th grade history focuses on Ancient Civilizations. Students will be expected to learn Cornell Note taking, complete long-term projects, and perform presentations.
