ABOUT OUR WSCL TEAM

  • XC Mountain Biking
  • 5th - 12th grade
  • All gender identities welcome
  • Team is for riders living in RSD boundaries - but we can waive in students from other areas who wish to practice with us
  • Private, public, and homeschool students
  • All rider levels from beginner to advanced
  • Must register with WSCL for each season in order to come on rides

ABOUT OUR CHS ASB CLUB

  • Free and open to all students at Cedarcrest High School
  • Meet monthly during Pack Time with Coaches Jutta, David, and Eric
  • Hang out, talk about MTB, work on projects
  • Students do not need to be on WSCL team to join ASB Club
  • Cedarcrest MTB is a club on the CHS campus and not a school sport within the CHS Athletic Department

MORE ABOUT OUR WSCL TEAM

The Cedarcrest MTB XC Team is a sub association within the Washington Student Cycling League (WSCL)

  • WSCL sets the season start and end dates and organizes all races
  • Cedarcrest MTB sets our own practice schedule within WSCL guidelines and formats
  • Cedarcrest MTB is not an independent non-profit and only participates in WSCL XC races -> no other series/disciplines
  • All students and coaches interested in riding with Cedarcrest MTB need to register through WSCL each and every season (twice per year – spring season and fall season)

All riders are expected to annually sign and follow our team agreement which includes: ��IMBA RULES OF THE TRAIL

PLUS:

  • Come prepared (on time, bike ready, dressed appropriately, with water and supplies).
  • Wheels on the ground at all times unless under specific direction of a coach for skill training.
  • For practice rides - ride at the pace of the rider in front of you unless instructed to pass by a coach and give at least 3 seconds of braking distance at all times.
  • Keep language clean and positive.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship at practices and at races.
  • Coaches make the determinations on ride plans, including rider groups and which trails & features are appropriate for that ride. Students are expected to follow the ride plan.
  • Failure to follow coach directions and these rules will result in removal from practice.
  • You represent our team not only at practices and races but in the community. You are ambassadors of this sport in the world and are expected to follow the rules of the trail and the rules of the law when riding your bike anywhere.

WHAT DO I NEED ?

  • Mountain bike in good working order
  • Helmet that fits properly
  • Outdoor clothing for wet and cold weather: layers for top & bottom, warm socks, full fingered gloves, rain jacket (synthetics/wool are best, avoid cotton)
  • Closed toed, all weather shoes
  • Eye protection highly recommended
  • Enough water for your ride (bottles in bike cages/backpack ok or carry a hydration pack)
  • A way to carry all your gear on rides - small backpack for clothes, water, snacks, and tools if you have them
  • Transportation to and from practices and races (carpools encouraged)
  • A good attitude!

Limited loaner bikes are at times available on a first come, first serve basis. Sizing is always an issue so reach out if you need help sourcing a bike!

Some racecourses feature optional drops, and we do some limited drop coaching and practice for riders ready to do so safely.

Some race courses feature “doubles,” optional jump features that can be safely rolled by all skill levels. Our XC team does not coach jumping techniques or encourage jumping with the team.

SPRING PRACTICE SCHEDULE �Arrive 10 minutes prior. Wheels roll at start time.

AT PRACTICE: We play games and do warm ups together at the start, break into smaller groups for trail riding and skill refinement, and come back together at the end of practice for a team snack circle.

NOTE: We don’t hold practice on holidays, over spring break, or on Fridays/Sundays of race weekends

WSCL SPRING RACE WEEKENDS��Saturday Pre-Rides�Race courses are open to pre-ride the Saturday before each race from 1-4pm. Our team meets at 2pm to pre-ride together unless otherwise noted. WSCL also hosts a #GirlBoss pre-ride for any interested female riders at 3pm. ��Sunday Race Day

Students are assigned a race category and will be given a timeline of when to report that day. But everyone is welcome in our team tent all day to cheer on teammates.

Spring 2026 Race Weekends�4/11 & 4/12 Spokane *during RSD spring break*�4/25 & 4/26 Cle Elum�5/2 & 5/3 Gig Harbor�5/16 & 5/17 Winthrop�* These first four races follow the regular format��5/30 & 5/31 Leavenworth -> 2 tiers of racing � State Championship race for qualifying athletes�& regular format race for all other athletes

WSCL SPRING RACE WEEKENDS - continuedStudents compete in an assigned race category against others of their same gender to complete 1, 2, or 3 laps of a 5 mile xc course. Students are placed by WSCL in race categories based on age and experience and can petition to change categories if needed. The top 5 finishers in each category make the podium.

Team scoring is tallied for middle school and high school teams. Cedarcrest MTB has both but we practice all together.

�There is a girls race block for the female race categories.��State Championship qualifications: ��1) Two Starts Rule: Students need to start in at least 2 spring season races prior to the state championship race weekend��2) WSCL will release a benchmark students in each category �need to meet in at least one of their races prior to the state championship in order to qualify for the state championship tier �

If a student does not qualify for the state championship race, they can still compete that day in the regular race tier.

WSCL SPRING RACE WEEKENDS - continued��Other options for students to participate in race weekends: ��Open Competitive Race - this option is an all gender, all age race category you can request to do in place of the other race categories. Open racers complete 1 lap, and the top 5 finishers make the podium. �

Open Non-Competitive Ride - for any student who would like to ride 1 lap of the course on race day and see their time but not compete.This ride happens first thing in the morning and does not have a podium. ��Pre-Ride Only - students can come do the Saturday pre-ride with the team to see what the courses are like but opt to not participate on Sunday.��Team Tent Supporter - not ready or unable to ride the course? Come help Coach Bryce with Team Tent operations and ring cowbells to cheer on your teammates.

FLEXIBILITY FOR SPRING SEASON - CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

  • Students ideally participate in local practice rides + the races.
  • You can do some, all, or none of the races, but the cost for the season is the same.
  • WSCL will have camping options, or secure your own lodging at race sites.

ATTENDANCE FOR LOCAL PRACTICES

  • No minimum practice hours required
  • No refunds for missed practices
  • RSVP’ing in the BAND app for every practice is a MUST for both riders and coaches

WHEN WOULD A PRACTICE BE CANCELED?

  • Not enough coaches available
  • Dangerous weather
  • WSCL pauses/cancels season

COST TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SPRING SEASON

  • $265 $165 per student rider for spring ‘26 with our team discount! Use discount code CC$100discount2026at check out. Each student registration must be done as a separate transaction to get discount. �(Additional financial is assistance available and almost always granted through WSCL. We can direct you to their application.)
  • $40 for all 2026 coaches. This fee will also cover those who coach again in the fall. (Financial assistance is available thru Cedarcrest MTB. Reach out if needed.)

WSCL REGISTRATION INFO

  • Each student and coach must be registered in WSCL’S system called CCN to come to practice: opens 1/15/26 and closes 3/22/26 - see Register button at https://washingtonleague.org
  • We are Cedarcrest MTB in CCN
  • Our team code to be able to register is CedarcrestSpring26
  • Select the gender with which you identify and/or are most comfortable racing with (male, female, other)
  • When you register for the season, you are automatically registered for races if you want to go
  • Returning families can use their existing CCN account. New families can set up an account through the WSCL website.

ANY ADULT WANTING TO RIDE WITH THE TEAM MUST BE A REGISTERED COACH WITH WSCL��GETTING STARTED AS A COACH

  • Register with WSCL as a coach ($40)
  • Complete WSCL background check (emailed to you)
  • Complete WSCL concussion & Level 1 coach training (online - WSCL will set this up for you)

WSCL COACHING PROGRAM

  • Background check is required annually for all coaches
  • WSCL offers Level 2 & 3 coaching clinics (optional)
  • Provide your own CPR/1st Aid Certification to become Level 2 & 3 Coach
  • WSCL training covers rider engagement, risk management, and skill development - complete to advance your coach license level
