CFA 2.2 revision

  • Topic Sentence: author + title + restate prompt
  • Grendel’s origin and explain
  • Topic sen. > quote > explain (x 3-5)
    • Quote at least three pieces of evidence
    • Use phrases of quoted evidence, not full sentences (“Grim demon,” not the whole line)
    • Quotation marks around quoted evidence even when it’s one word
    • Citations (Heaney line #)
    • Explain each quotation you cite (“The significance of this phrase is…”)
    • You must use a transition for evidence (The poem states, “He haunted…”)
  • Focus on why poem is important (why is the story of Grendel important or relatable to today’s society)
  • When finished: Finish reading THe Postmaster where we left off, highlighting main ideas

65 of 107

Plagiarism is…

  • Using any source without citing it
  • Going to Google and taking what it says in summaries or any other notes
    • EVEN IF IT’S JUST A FEW WORDS
  • You should ONLY be using the text we went over in class
    • Some of you are using online resources. How do I know?
      • You give parts of the story that we didn’t even read…
      • You give specifics about Grendel that aren’t in the story we read…
      • You tell inaccurate information because whatever you googled was wrong
  • If you take even a few WORDS from an online source and call it your own, it is plagiarism!
  • Future warning: in college, they run “plagiarism checkers” on your work (academic integrity scans). If your work reaches a certain percentage, you can be kicked out of the class and eventually the university. THIS IS NOT A LIE.
