“The tale is told from 10 different points of view. This made for a very interesting perspective as to how the characters really felt about what was happening in the story. And, it is told with much humor”.

“Most people when they think of Coyote as a Trickster figure, they think of a figure who does tricks, that tricks people. Actually, Trickster figures aren't that at all.

Trickster figures are creatures of appetites. They have these enormous appetites and the appetites gets them in all sorts of trouble. Appetite for power, appetite for money...appetites for anything you can think of. They always over do it.

So in the Coyote stories that's what Coyote does. He's always in trouble because of those appetites. They always get him into trouble and he has to try and extricate himself and they're really cautionary stories.”

FANTASY STORY

QUEST STORY

Linda Bailey

34 of 45

The tiny hero of the book is Eddie.

Eddie, like the rest of his family, is a bug. However, unlike the rest of his family, Eddie has a very green and very shiny shell, which makes him stand out and thus more vulnerable to the squishers, who we would be more likely to identify as humans.

Eddie and his family have a unique living situation; they live in a crack behind the chalkboard in the 4th grade classroom at Ferny Creek Elementary School. This unique home has led to some unique abilities in some of the bugs, including Eddie and Aunt Min --- they can read.

This ability to read and the resulting love of literature leads to the conflict in the story. Aunt Min has ventured to the school’s library, her favorite place in the world, but she hasn’t returned. Eddie and his family are worried about Aunt Min, but what can they do? Eddie decides that he will go to the library to find Aunt Min, or, at least, to find out what happened to her. This is a huge and dangerous undertaking for Eddie, who has never left the 4th grade classroom, who doesn’t exactly know where the library is, and who is unsure who (squishers!) or what (spiders! rats!) he may encounter on his trek to the library.

Not to give too much away, but Eddie does make it to the library and does find Auntie Min (this happens by the end of chapter four, so I haven’t given too much away), but here is where the real adventure starts. The beloved Ferny Creek Library is under attack by outside forces and Eddie and Auntie Min feel compelled to fight back, even in a small way, to protect the library and the books they love so much.

THE MIDNIGHT GANG

DAVID WILLIAMS

The midnight gang is about a kid named Tom who got hit in the head by a cricket ball. With that saying he had to go to lord funt hospital. Lord funt hospital is not the best hospital in the world, because the nurses and the doctors are not very nice. The characters in the story are George, Amber, Tom, Robin and Sally.

The problem of this story was that the other kids from the hospital would not let Tom be in the “midnight gang”. (Sally was not part of the midnight gang because she was really sick) otherwise the midnight gang members finally are getting along well.
