Making Healthy Choices to Take Care of Ourselves

  • Because you are so special, it is important to take good care of yourself. One very important way to care for yourself is by making healthy choices like not using tobacco, alcohol, or other harmful drugs.

Medication vs. Drugs

Sometimes people get confused between medicine and harmful drugs.

Medicine is safe when a doctor gives it to you and you take it the right way — it can help you get better when you are sick.

Harmful drugs can make you very sick and can change the way you think and act.

Tobacco, Vapes, and Alcohol

Tobacco has many harmful chemicals in it, including nicotine. The drugs in tobacco can harm many parts of your body including your lungs.

Alcohol is a drug that is harmful for kids and can also be harmful for adults if used too much. It can make it hard to think clearly. Never ride in a vehicle with someone who has been drinking alcohol.

Vapes may look different, but they also have nicotine and other chemicals that are not safe for kids and can hurt your lungs.
