Success Strategy for Pastoral Teams and Mid-level Ministry

4 of 17

1. About Pastoral Teams and Mid-level Ministry

It is not a pyramid structure.

Circular Structure = Cooperative System

Sharing of responsibility, cooperation, participation,

collective decision-making

It is not a one-person system where one person runs

everything.

People are not called by higher or lower titles. It is teamwork.

It is an establishment of a relationship where members help,

encourage, and work together.

The pastor is the leader who gathers opinions from other pastors,

but in practice, the personal authority of each is equally recognized. Even if there is special treatment or titles received from the church such class-based discrimination is eliminated.

Each person does the work assigned to them with a shared goal and vision.

And through mutual discussion they simply implement the revival of the church as planned/designed.

2. Activation of Pastoral Teams and Mid-level Ministry

Peter Wagner emphasized that

“A church can grow up to 50 members without

a pastoral team, but cannot proceed beyond that”

“If you intend to break the 50-member limit,

you must succeed with pastoral teams (team ministry).”

The purpose of pastoral team ministry is not just because

the number of members is large, or the senior pastor

is busy.

It is for them to serve as a top experts

in their assigned fields

Furthermore, it is essential to raise lay ministers

when managing and nurturing groups of 100 or more.

3. Requirements for Pastoral Teams and Mid-level Ministry

A. The church operating system centered on Vision, Mission, and

Core Values must be established.

B. The church must be purpose-driven, not people-driven.

C. Encourage each other not with work, but with a shared vision so that

the team’s dream becomes their own dream.

A Columbia Study reported that 95% of all teams fail and only 5% succeed, because teams do not have a common goal when they are formed.

When assembling a bicycle, each person must accurately recognize their assigned area of responsibility, and when they are aware that the goal is to assemble a bicycle, they will all work according to the structure to be realized.

The most effective teams have a clear shared vision, mission, and core values. Rather than focusing on the personal church growth goals of the church leader, they should all have a shared vision and goals.

1) Must establish a challenging and clear vision and goals as a group

4. Requirements for Pastoral Teams and Mid-level Ministry

A. To become a part of the pastoral team and mid-level ministry team pastors/members must possess expertise in a specific area and be able

to cooperate and integrate.

B. They must lead the team members toward the goals with a sense of responsibility and passion for their assigned work.

C. Just as with the balance between offense and defense in soccer,

harmony according to the various roles must be achieved.

A. Relationships must be built beyond work to include a vision.

B. They must be able to approach the work together in substantial, not just superficial, ways.

2) Mid-level ministry team must cultivate personal expertise.

3) There must be active communication.
