Canadian Coast Guard (CCG)

• CCG is a Special Operating Agency within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), responsible for services and programs that contribute to the safety, security and accessibility of Canada’s waterways.
• To fulfill this mandate, CCG is in constant collaboration with many partner organizations, such as other federal, provincial/territorial, and municipal government departments, indigenous and coastal community groups, shipping industry stakeholders, and volunteers.

CCG is the lead for marine operations for safety and protection of Canada’s marine environment.

• CCG provides 24/7/365 SAR services, in partnership with National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces (DND/CAF), and over 4,000 volunteer members of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.
• CCG ensures that safe, reliable, professionally crewed, and operationally capable vessels, vehicles, and helicopters are available to respond.

CCG Regions & Assets

• 3 Joint Rescue Coordination Centres;
• 2 Maritime Rescue Sub-Centres;
• 44 SAR stations;
• 25 seasonal inshore rescue boats (IRBs) that maintain a 30 minute or less reaction time during peak season;
• 1 Arctic Maritime Response station in Rankin Inlet;
• A dedicated hovercraft station (Sea Island/Vancouver, BC) with CCG’s only dive team;
• CCG patrol mode vessels provide offshore SAR coverage; plus
• More than 80 multi-tasked vessels and 22 helicopters able to provide additional SAR capacity.
