Assessment Structure

Practical Assignment: Students complete a piece of practical work and are assessed against defined criteria (20 marks)

Paper One: Multiple choice paper (25 marks)

Paper Two: Extended answer paper (75 marks)

TIMELINE - FROM THE PRELIM TO THE EXAM

Prelim: 2^nd week of January for 2 weeks will cover Waves and Radiation, and Dynamics and Space topics
Practical assignment will be done during prelim diet and for a week after that
We must complete the course by the end of March
Exam date will be published in September.

How to be successful in the exam

Set defined times at home to review the notes and attempt practice questions e.g. 30 minutes the night before your next lesson.

Come to the extra sessions provided on Wednesday lunchtime and after school. There you can receive targeted assistance with specific problems found during your private study time and do additional practice questions.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Offer time and support to make sure your child is organised and has all the materials they need. You may want to go through their Google Classroom and jotters with them to make sure they cover everything they need for the exam.
Provide a quiet space for your child to concentrate and discuss how best to manage their phone during their allocated study time.
Help them create a study timetable which is structured but also allows for regular breaks.
Access the SQA website to help them improve their work.
Encourage your child to make contact with their teacher if they are feeling overwhelmed or struggling with a question.
Provide lots of tea and snacks!
