Get to know me/ llegar a conocerme

This is my 6th years as an educator and my 4th year at Dallas ISD. I graduated with my Bachelors of Arts in Biology from the University of North Texas and then got my Master of Arts in Teaching from Louisiana College. I also teach Biology as an adjunct professor at Mountain View.

Class Overview/ descripción general de la clase

Biology is the study of living organisms and their interactions with their environment. In this class, we will examine biological concepts on different levels from the molecules that make everything up to the biosphere, which consists of all living things and the ecosystems in which they live. This class will prepare students to complete the Biology End of Course STAAR test and provide them with the experiences and knowledge to be successful in future science courses.

Class Expectations/ expectativas la clase

What Biology will look like on a virtual daily bases:

  1. Go to Google Classroom and click the Zoom link
  2. Have Camera on for 1st 10 minutes while you complete the Bell Ringer. The BR is a Google Form that you will find in GC
  3. Begin Lecture while you take notes that are in GC
  4. Pause periodically for checks for understanding and mini assignments within the notes.
  5. Complete the Activity for the day.
  6. Take the DOL. Your Camera must be on for the last 5-10 minutes

Upon completion of the Biology course, you will

  • Demonstrate safe and effective laboratory techniques
  • Develop scientific thinking skills and experimental design methods
  • Analyze the interactions of biotic and abiotic components in environments
  • Describe the characteristics of living organisms and the use of those characteristics to classify organisms
  • Explain how organisms maintain and regulate internal conditions necessary to sustain life
  • Describe how similarities in DNA and other structures in all organisms can provide insight into the history of life
  • Understand how all systems interact with one another in homeostasis
  • Analyze natural resources and environmental impacts
