Blackboard Ally

Fordham IT is pleased to announce the addition of a new accessibility tool in Blackboard: Ally. Ally automatically runs through your course materials in Blackboard and generate accessible alternatives to your original files through an accessibility checker, eliminating the need to use multiple checkers and tools. Alternative formats generated by Ally supports the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and allows students to choose the type of file that best suits their needs. Blackboard Ally also provides feedback on the accessibility of your course and guidance on how to fix any identified accessibility issues. Ally is available to try now in all your Summer and Fall course shells. A full schedule of training opportunities and support resources will be provided shortly.

Come with multiple copies of a syllabus you want to revamp and we'll discuss in small groups ways to implement some of the innovative pedagogies we have been reading about.

The hope and intention for this session is that, by working in small groups on specific issues we want to improve in our teaching--student-centered pedagogy, diversity & inclusion, access & universal design--we can identify places on our current syllabi where we can experiment and innovate.

Space is limited. Attendance restricted to teachers �(including GSAS fellows, adjuncts, lecturers, and faculty) at Fordham University.

Faculty Technology Services has assigned Ms. Heather V. Hill, Instructional Technologist to be a liaison to graduate students, supporting their digital research and teaching. Heather (heathervhill.wordpress.com), a recent graduate of the Library and Information Science program at Pratt Institute and of the Medieval Studies program at Fordham University, is especially passionate about digital scholarship (DH), accessibility, and user experience (UX). She is excited to help the Fordham community implement these ideas in their work. Heather’s work has included collaborating with individual students and student organization on their particular projects as well as creating a series of graduate-student focused workshops based upon their stated interests. If you have any students who might be interesting in collaborating, or who might want assistance on their projects, please have them reach out to Heather at hhill3@fordham.edu.
