What is caddying?

  • A caddie assists golfers during their rounds.
    • Carry a golf bag for one golfer
    • Forecaddie – follow golfers who take golf cart
  • Responsibilities include
    • Carrying the golfer’s bag
    • Use a range finder for yardages, replacing divots, raking sand traps, attending the flagstick.
    • Work as a team with other caddies
  • What’s expected of a caddie
    • Be prepared to learn and work hard
    • Be on time (early!)
    • Be open to coaching
    • Don’t be afraid to ask questions

Caddying is a great summer job!

  • Make good money.
  • Work outside and get in shape
  • Practice and improve life skills –
    • talking with the adults, listening skills, customer service, teamwork, work ethic, and networking
  • Talk with successful people that are generally willing to help out people that work hard.
  • Get paid to try to earn a scholarship!

NO PRIOR GOLF/CADDYING KNOWLEDGE NEEDED. ALL TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED.

Caddying in Central Indiana

  • A number of golf clubs in the Indianapolis Area have caddies
  • We are recruiting for a few clubs and help to place caddies as they are needed
  • Crooked Stick GC, Highland CC, Hillcrest CC, Meridian Hills CC, Prairie View GC, Woodland CC
  • Prairie View Golf Club
    • 35 caddies in this summer’s program
    • 1,000 rounds (loops) – average 30-40 per caddie
    • Evenly split between boys and girls
    • 12 different high schools
  • Training begins in March - if you are interested you will need to apply in February!

Evans Scholarship

  • Nation’s largest scholarship program for caddies
  • In 1930, the Western Golf Association (WGA) and celebrated amateur golfer Charles “Chick” Evans Jr. established the Evans Scholars Foundation.
  • Mission - provide full tuition and housing scholarships to caddies with limited financial means.
  • Since then, 11,815 outstanding young men and women have graduated as Evans Scholars.
  • This year, there are 1,100 Evans Scholars enrolled at 21 leading universities nationwide.

      • Evans Scholars live in a in a co-ed Foundation-owned Chapter House.
      • By living and working with others, Evans Scholars acquire poise, leadership capabilities and communications skills that will help them in their future endeavors.

Evans Scholarship

  • The Evans Scholarship is a full tuition and housing college scholarship for high-achieving caddies with limited financial means.
  • To qualify, caddies must meet the following requirements
    • Strong Caddie record - Applicants must have caddied, regularly and successfully, for a minimum of two years prior to 12th grade.
    • Excellent academics: Scholarship applicants must have completed their junior year of high school with above a B average in college preparatory courses.
    • Demonstrated financial need: Scholarship applicants must clearly have a need for financial assistance
    • Outstanding character: Scholarship applicants must be outstanding in character, integrity and leadership.
