GOAL 5: Emigration / Immigration

Choice A:

- In Online Resources briefly review each of the bullet points for online immigration records by time period. These record collections are good for learners to explore later.

- Scroll down to Background and briefly review the bullets as a historical framework for immigration.

- In Immigration Records briefly review the information in “Passenger Lists” and “Passports.”

- Scroll down to Ohio Migration Routes and select the Ohio RIver link. In the page that appears, mention the map, and the History section.

QUIKLink:

- Open the link for “FS: Ohio, Southern District Naturalization Index, 1852-1991” and enter “Hugo Weiss” as the name. Then click View Record to see naturalization details.

GOAL 6: Military

Choice A:

“FS: Ohio Military Records”

- In Online Resources briefly review the bullet points for online military records by time period. These record collections are good for learners to explore later.

- In Forts mention the list of military fort locations in Indiana. Click the link for Fort Washington and scroll briefly through the page.

- Briefly scroll through the sections for various wars that are listed. These may contain state-specific and general information about military records and conflicts.

- For the Revolutionary War, open the 1840 Census of Pensioners. Mention the bold heading for the legend and scroll down a bit on the page.

“... Linkpendium site”

- Scroll down the page and explain that the links point to collections from a number of different sites.

GOAL 7: Probate, Land, and Court

Choice A:

- In Online Resources briefly review each of the bullet points for probate records by time period and counties. These record collections are good for learners to explore later.

- In Record Synopsis summarize the paragraph to explain the types of information that may be found in probate records.

- In History summarize the paragraph to explain where probate records have been kept.

“FS: Ohio Land and Property”

- In Online Resources briefly review each of the bullet points for land records by time period. These record collections are good for learners to explore later.

- In Ohio Land Records summarize the section and the map for an overview of information that may be found in land records, and the history of land grants in the state.

- In Federal Land Grants summarize a few of the bullet points to show a variety of land grants to various people.

- Scroll down to Obtaining Land Entry Case Files and summarize the first paragraph for types of genealogy info in land records.

- In County Court Records review the first two paragraphs for strategies in working with land records at the county level.

Bureau of Land Management Site:

- Choose Ohio in the search box and enter “Johnson” as the surname for the search. Then browse one of the land records.

- In Online Gazetteers briefly review the bullet points for gazetteers online. These record collections are good for learners to explore later.

- In Why Use Gazetteers summarize the first paragraph to describe the purpose of gazetteers.

- In Gazetteer Contents briefly review the bullet list items to show the types of information contained in gazetteers.

“Explore FamilySearch Places …”

- Click the link to see descriptions and map locations for places in the state. Zoom in to see additional pins, and scroll down the list a bit.

“Maps of US” site

- Scroll down to the Interactive Map section and click several of the year links to illustrate county formations in the state.

Choice B:

- In the Ohio maps page, click the map by George Cram. This shows counties and towns in the state for the year 1899. Zoom in (scroll wheel) to view more details. The left panel has filters you can use to refine your search.

“ … Old Maps of Ohio (Wikipedia) …” link

- In Subcategories mention the links to see maps by centuries.

Open any of the maps in the Media section and zoom in for details.

GOAL 9: Newspapers

Choice A:
