What is the noise level of an air conditioner?

Improvements

Causes

Like any other machine, an air conditioner is bound to make some noise. From the fan to the motor, the moving parts of the AC unit will produce noise as they work to cool the hotel guest room..

The amount of noise produced by an air conditioner is related to its age, type, and condition. In the past, air conditioners operated quite loudly, but advances in technology mean that with today's modern air conditioning units, noise is no longer an issue.

The decibel rating for air conditioners should be given in the product specification of your unit. There will be one number for the noise of the AC unit inside the hotel room and another for the AC unit outside. The decibel level of air conditioners can vary greatly. The loudest part of the air conditioner is the compressor, modern split system residential air conditioners that use inverter technology and place the compressor in an outdoor unit will be much quieter. When we use the Central Chiller, VRV, or VRF system we don't need to worry about the noise from the outdoor unit, because the installation of an outdoor unit for a central system like this will be placed far away from the Guest Room.

How to reduce air conditioner noise?

As they start to wear out, air conditioners have to work harder so you'll often find that they get noisier as they age, especially air conditioners that don't have the benefit of modern technology. If you're having trouble with a noisy AC unit, here are some things you can do to help minimize the noise.

Silent air conditioners

Modern air conditioners are made with noise reduction in mind and technological advancements have made noise levels much lower than before, so silent air conditioners are truly possible.

When talking about noise levels for individual split units, you also need to think about the AC outdoor unit. Not only do you want to avoid noise that disturbs your guests, but, when it comes to sound, especially outdoors, there are other factors that can affect the level of noise you hear. For this reason, there are two ways in which sound ratings are evaluated. Sound power is the actual noise produced by the AC unit, while sound pressure takes into account the perceived reduction in noise when you move away. This is usually calculated between 1 and 5 meters away from the unit. In reality, other ambient sounds from the surrounding environment will mingle with the sound of the outdoor unit and also affect the sound level you hear.

Maintenance

Emergency if the Guest Complaint

Routine maintenance. By cleaning the filters, vents, and evaporator, you can prevent your AC from working harder which can result in more noise. Check the surface where the AC is installed for stability. Uneven walls or floors can cause vibrations, so you may need to level the surface or use foam to absorb shocks or mounting.

Reduce the fan speed. A higher speed means the AC will work harder as the motor and components work harder to cool your room. Lowering it to a more tolerable sound level usually allows the unit to cool the room, just more quietly.

Therefore, you should recognize any unusual sounds or increase in volume on your AC unit. If you notice any changes, you need to call your engineering as this could be a sign of a more serious problem.

Squeaking: may need cleaning or lubrication.

Buzzing: this could be a buildup of dust or a sign of something more serious.

Rattling: the fan rotor may be loose.

Grinding: possible bearing problems or motor damage.

Hissing: the unit should be shut down immediately and checked for leaks by a professional.

By getting into the habit of a good maintenance plan, cleaning your AC filters regularly, and having regular servicing, you'll keep your AC in tip-top shape and get the quiet air conditioning you expect.
