CHAPTER 1: QUEEN VASHTI DEPOSED

  • During the reign of King Xerxes of Persia he had a party. At the party he order for his wife to attend.
  • His wife refused.
  • King Xerxes spoke to his councilors about what he should do, and they advised that they should banish in order to set an example throughout the land of how a wives should treat their husband

CHAPTER 2: ESTHER IS MADE QUEEN

  • Because Xerxes had banished his wife he had his officials bring all the prettiest girls in the land to the palace so he could choose a new wife.
  • A Jewish women named Esther who lived with her Uncle Mordecai was selected by Xerxes officials to be brought to the palace.
  • Xerxes falls in love with Esther and chooses her to be Queen.
  • One day Esther’s Uncle Mordecai overheard some of the Kings officers plotting against Xerxes. Mordecai quickly reported this to Esther who then reported it to the King. The officers were investigated and found guilty

CHAPTER 3: XERXES ORDERS JEWS KILLED

  • Xerxes elevates a noble named Haman in status so he was more powerful then all other officials.
  • The people are then ordered to kneel before Haman but Mordecai refuses.
  • Haman becomes angry and petition Xerxes to kill all Jews throughout the land.
  • Xerxes agrees and orders all Jews to be killed

CHAPTER 4: MORDECAI PETITIONS ESTHER

  • After hearing the news of the Jews execution order, Mordecai goes to Esther to ask for help.
  • Esther initially replies she cannot because she will be killed if she approaches Xerxes without being summoned, unless the King makes an exception.
  • Mordechai explains to her that her family may be killed if she does nothing.
  • Esther then tells him that they should both fast, and then after this she will go to Xerxes.

CHAPTER 5: ESTHER PETITIONS XERXES

  • Esther goes to Xerxes without being summoned, but Xerxes makes an exception for her.
  • Xerxes ask her what she wants and says she will tell him at a banquet she is having. She requests that Xerxes brings Haman as well.
  • Xerxes grants her request.
  • Haman makes plans to kill Mordecai after seeing him in public, and realizing he was not afraid of him.

CHAPTER 6: MORDECAI HONORED

  • Later that night King Xerxes is reading the history books of his reign, when he reads the part where Mordecai warned him about the conspiracy to assassinate him. Xerxes realizes he never honored Mordecai, and makes a plan to honor him.
  • Just then Haman comes to court, so Xerxes orders him to robe Mordecai and parade him around in celebration of his work.
  • Haman does as his instructed. But after the day is over he is very angry and returns home and complains to his wife. But then the King’s officials arrive at his house and take him to Esther’s banquet.

CHAPTER 7: HAMAN HANGED

  • At Esther’s banquet Xerxes asks Esther what she wanted to ask him about.
  • Esther asks him to spare the Jewish people from execution, and to kill Haman.
  • Xerxes then orders Haman to be killed.

CHAPTER 8: XERXES EDICT FOR THE JEWS

  • After Haman’s death Xerxes gives Haman’s estate to Esther, who in turn gives it to Mordecai.
  • Xerxes then issues an edict to cancel the execution order for the Jews as well, as well as give them the authority to assemble and kill anybody they believed to be a threat.
  • Many people converted to Judaism out of fear of the Jews power.

CHAPTER 9: REVENGE OF THE JEWS

  • Using the power of the edict the Jews killed all those who had plotted against them.
  • Xerxes then asked Esther if there was anything else she wanted, and she askes him to issue another edict so the Jews can continue to kill their enemies. Xerxes grants her request.
  • On the third day after the two days of killing, the Jews have a celebration.

CHAPTER 10: THE GREATNESS OF MORDECAI

  • Mordecai became very powerful and second in command to Xerxes.
