FINE ART

PRE-COURSE TASK TO COMPLETE IN SUMMER 2025

In an A5 sketchbook, create a series of drawings that respond to the things you see and experience during the summer. You can use drawing, photography, painting, collage and any other means/forms you can think of to capture your experiences in the summer.

I highly recommend using Faye Bridgwater’s ideas for ‘November Squares’ on her website to give you ideas of practicing your use of colour, line, form, composition, texture, mark making, shape, pattern, space.

Use the link to her website to help you with this task.

SUMMER VISIT

Visit an art gallery or exhibition e.g. Tate Modern, Tate, Saatchi, Oxford Museum of Modern Art, Compton Verney, Ashmolean Oxford. Collect material, information, images and photographs relating to your visit. Document these in your sketchbook

SUMMER READING

Please read ‘The Ways of Seeing’ by John Berger. It is a small book and easy to read. It will give you ideas on how to look at artwork and what it might mean. This is important for your contextual studies and use of visual language that you will need for A Level.
