1 - Get Involved

Midlo currently offers over 33 VHSL athletic teams to include JV and Varsity, 5 academic teams and we offer other activities and clubs for our Midlo students.

Midlo Academic Period (MAP)

• Make your appointment pass 24 hours in advance
• Students will carry a MAP pass with them when moving to a different class during MAP
• No Movement Mondays for the first 11 weeks of school. 1st period classes have assigned lessons to complete with their classes

Midlo Academic Period (MAP)

• Beginning on August 25th, students will report to a 27 minute MAP every day.
• MAP will occur following first period every day
• No stopping from 1st period to the MAP period. A bell will ring after two minutes signifying when students may move to their MAP class (with a pass)
• Students must have a C or higher in the assigned MAP class to visit another class.

Lunches

• 23 minutes per day
• Eating time may vary from one day to the next
• Inside and outdoor options on the bus loop
• Free lunch with an application
• Students are expected to clean up their tables
• No outside food from vendors

Based on last year’s grades -

• Of all the students with a D+, 62% had nine (9) or more absences
• Of all the students with a D, 71% had nine (9) or more absences
• Of all the students with an F, 79% had nine (9) or more absences

Showing up is half the battle

• Come to school everyday (UNLESS you have a fever, upset stomach or other medical issue that is not controlled)
• Remember to bring a note when you return or have your parent/guardian call the attendance office and make them aware you are out sick.
• Excused vs Unexcused
• Excused → a note, email, call is on file from your parent
• Unexcused —> No information received

• Truant / Chronically Absent - when you exceed 18 days or 2 days per month.
• Chronic absenteeism CAN and DOES impact your academic performance.
• Incomplete Assignments
• Not able to score well on SOL AP, or PSAT/SAT assessments
• Owe seat time
• Not allowed to participate in certain school activities
• Retained

• Know your why? What motivates you to come to school on those days you’re just not feeling it?
• Speak with your counselor or administrator for support.
• For chronic illnesses, work with the school nurse to develop a healthcare plan.
• Notify your teachers if you will be absent for an extended period of time. (Surgery, hospitalization for an injury)
• Stay home if you are sick. (We do not want to get others sick.)
• Try to schedule doctor’s appoints after school or on early release days. If that’s not possible come in before or after the appointment. (Bring a note!!!)

• Develop a plan to get you back in school without any excused/unexcused absences.�
• Referred to the county attendance team for truancy.

Pick up and dismissal procedures

• Students can begin entering the building at 8:00am�
• Students must be dropped off and picked up at the front of the school - door 1�
• Dismissal for seniors - 2:55pm. Underclassmen - 3:00pm.�
• Move directly to your destination - continue moving

Bus Expectations

• Stay seated in your assigned seat
• Respect the driver
• Arrive to your stop on time
• At dismissal, report directly to your bus. The bus will not wait for you!!!!
• Check the TV screen (on the bus loop) for specific bus location on our bus loop

​

• Once buses are signaled to go it is a hazard to stop them. Therefore, you will miss the bus.

Bus Expectations

• Please refrain from eating or drinking on the school bus (bottled water is permitted)
• Allow the bus driver to focus on the road
• Riding the bus is a privilege not a right. If you violate the the rules, there could be consequences�to include removal from bus transportation. ​

• You may only ride the bus to which you are assigned In other words….ride the same bus to and �from school every day

Speed, phone use, other violations - one warning, then lose parking permit

Student Drivers

Student drivers who arrive late and accrue more than 10 unexcused tardies to first period (for the year) will LOSE their parking permit for ONE WEEK.

​

15 unexcused tardies=loss of privilege for 2 weeks

20 unexcused tardies =loss for 4 weeks

Excessive tardies may result in the total loss of parking privileges.

In other words…. BE ON TIME

​

• Everyone (other than CCPS staff) must pass through the WDS before entering the school
• Multiple Staff will be available to assist students.
• Not a metal detector. These are used at sports venues, amusement parks, other schools, etc
• Remove items that might alert the system - Chromebook, large three-ring binders, scissors

Hallway and Tardy Procedures

• Keep moving in the hallways between bells
• Tardy Process
• 3^rd (block class) / 5^th (first period) tardy: The teacher will warn the student and contact the parent.
• 4^th (block class) / 6^th (first period) tardy: Administrative lunch detention shall be assigned.
• 5^th (block class) / 7^th (first period) tardy: Two administrative lunch detentions shall be assigned with possible loss of parking privileges.
• 6^th (block class) / 8^th (first period) tardy: After school detention shall be assigned with possible loss of parking privileges.
• 7^th (block class) / 9^th (first period) tardy: Saturday detention shall be assigned with possible loss of parking privileges
• 8^th (block class) / 10^th (first period) tardy: Two after school detentions and one week of lunch detentions may be assigned with possible loss of parking privileges.
• 9^th (block class) / 11^th (first period) tardy and beyond: Required parent conference with student and administrator. An Administrator may assign further disciplinary consequences, upto and including ISD and OSS.

Hallway Movement

• 10 minute no movement at the beginning and five (5) minutes of no movement at the end of each class period�
• E-Hall Pass must be used when moving throughout the halls during the instructional school day. Restroom - will still take a paper pass for easy identification�
• Students found in areas of the building where they are not supposed to be will be escorted to the front off and receive an immediate consequence.

* Pay close attention to areas off limits during lunches�

• We have hall monitors. When they ask for your pass, show it. If you don’t have one for whatever reason, follow their direction.

• Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities.�
• Immediately report any potential instance of harassment or discrimination to Dr. Mooney. If not her, then report to any Midlothian HS faculty member.�

• Hats and head coverings may be worn if face and ears are visible (no hoodies)

Drugs and Alcohol

​

​A student may be suspended for any violation of school board policy. Suspensions for drugs (illegal, prescription, and over-the-counter medications), or alcohol violations require a minimum of ten days suspension and exclusion from extracurricular activities for a minimum of 15 school days (more based on academic status and the coach’s expectations), no parking for 365 days, and a conference with staff in the Office of Student Conduct.

​

This policy applies to all school related activities regardless of location.

​

​

Tobacco

1st offense: referral to resources to help overcome tobacco addiction. Required attendance at assigned support sessions.

​

2nd offense: three-day out-of-school suspension

​

3rd offense: five-day out-of-school suspension

​

4th offense: ten-day out-of-school suspension

​

5th offense: suspension for a minimum of ten days and may include a recommendation for extended suspension or expulsion

Honor Code

Violation of the Honor Code:

• cheating
• lying
• theft

Outcomes:

• Denial or termination of membership in the National Honor Society
• Zero on assignment

All absences and tardies count (very few exceptions)

1st Semester = No exams!!!

2nd Semester Exam Exemptions:

Absences/ Tardies apply from January 14th - May 22nd (estimated)

​

Students who pass a required SOL are exempt from the corresponding final exam. Students may not opt to take an SOL for the purpose of exam exemption.

​

An exemption in an AP class may be earned if

• The attendance requirements are met for that class
• The AP assessment is taken for that class
• An B or higher is earned for the year in that class

Exam Exemption

All students enrolled in an AP course who do not take the AP assessment will be required to complete the teacher’s course examination. Underclassmen appeals based on attendance are only allowed for AP courses if the AP assessment is taken.

Students who owe seat time do not qualify for an exam exemption.

​

All students enrolled in a dual enrollment class must take the first and second semester exam.

Late Work Procedure

​

• Refer to your teacher’s syllabus for late work procedures.
• It is vital that students complete assigned work by the assigned due date.
• If a student is unable to complete the work by the due date, very specific, school-wide procedures have been established.
