Teacher Notes:

Start each day with XtraMaths and Maths-Whizz. Once the students have finished XtraMaths they will need to spend a minimum of 15 minutes each day on Maths-Whizz. This is the same expectation as last term. They will be given 20 minutes at the start of each lesson to complete XtraMaths. Once they have finished this they will need to silently move onto Maths-Whizz until the 20 minutes is up.

Animation: As a class we will discuss what our animation will be this term and will give the students a chance to choose which nursery rhyme they will be using for their animation. As a class we will go over the translations of the Maori and Samoan nursery rhymes. We will then talk about the music which will be the voice over section this term. We will discuss what a beat is and how we can use different instruments to make different sounds. As a class we will listen to each of the nursery rhymes and see if there is a pattern with the types of instruments they use. We will then have about 5 minutes to decide with nursery rhyme they will use and then they will need to complete a plan in this link.

Whole class: Each day we will be completing a quick fire basic facts round as a class, they will click on this link and make a copy each day that we start. This will be another 5 minutes of silence period where the students will have their screens facing me so I can see what they are on. They will need to complete this as fast and as accurately as they can. We will have prizes at the end of the week for the quickest student. We will also have a prize for the person who has taken the most time off their practice for the week. I will place the timer on the board and they will need to record on their document the time they see on the screen when they finish.

I have who has: I am going to try this game out again in the class - this will be a whole class activity where they will sit in a circle on the mat and complete the game. We will keep a time for the week and will need to bring it down each day and get better and faster.

Winds:

  • This we we will be looking at proportions and ratios and what these are and how we can solve them and work them out.
  • The 57 students from Kapai school are going on a trip. Two thirds of the students can fit in a bus and the rest are going by car. How many are going on the bus? ⅓ of 57
    • 3 x 10 = 30 - 3 x 5 = 15 - This equals 45 still need 12 more
    • 3 x 4 = 12 - 10 + 5 + 4 = 19 this is ⅓ - ⅔ is 19 + 19 = 36 so ⅔ = 36
  • Student: I need to work out one third of fifty-seven first. Three times ten equals thirty. Three times five equals fifteen, so that's forty-five. You need twelve more, and that's three times four. Ten plus five plus four is nineteen and that's one third of fifty-seven. So two thirds of fifty-seven is nineteen plus nineteen and that's thirty-eight

Number Knowledge: There will be at least 4 questions a day for number knowledge which they will need to answer in their maths books which will be marked at the end of the week.

Earths:

  • This week we are looking at word problems and how to find out what the question is asking us and then figuring out the best way to solve the problem. We will also talk about how we can explain how we got the answer the question.
  • As a group we will work through some examples on this presentation to make sure that we are understanding how to work out the problems. Deach question will have notes in the speaker note for possible ways to answer the question.
