Student Voice

Noah-

For my volunteering section of the DofE, I worked at the Barnardo's in George Street. I hoped to learn important skills, such as managing customers and working on the till. As well as this I wanted to do something positive to help the community at large.

Romilly-

For my Volunteering section I decided to help out at my local Brownies group, as when I was in primary school i joined the brownies and I can still remember the volunteers that helped out when i was there. and I really enjoyed having the older children in the group, so i wanted to be that person for those who go to brownies now.

Bronze Award at CNCS

Students can take part in a range of opportunities In and outside of school — Take a look at the website for ideas: DofE.org/do/activities.

  • Activities could be something that young people are already doing or something completely new – and there are lots of possibilities for students to complete the award. Such as….school clubs, activities at home or online. (we have lots of opportunities in school!)
  • Ideally, minimum one hour a week per section. For 15 or 30 hours depending on what they set for their section time scales.
  • The whole award should take a minimum of six months to complete.
  • The students evidence their progress through each section and when the allocated time is completed, the chosen Assessor will write a short statement when they’ve finished the section. This could be a family friend, neighbour, coach or teacher (not a relative).

Who will be your assessor for this section?

15

Remember.

An assessor cannot be a family member.

The assessor will write a report at the end of the section to say how well you completed your activity.

Question.

How do we show progress in our sections?

16 of 26

Add evidence to support your progress.

It could be a photo, some text to explain what you did or a document.

(video doesn’t always work)

16

17 of 26

Use Log sheets to write down how long you have been spending on each activity

Example DofE account evidence

18

19 of 26

Evidence can be a mixture of photos and text messages- as long as the minimum 15 hours of time can be clearly seen.

19

20 of 26

Finally, once you have completed the minimum amount of time for the section, you will need an assessor report to be filled in by your assessor.

20

An assessor can also fill in the form online, this will go directly onto your edofe account.

Send them your DofE id number and the webpage.

Do i need to buy any equipment for the expedition?

No- please dont buy anything new for the expedition- we have a store of sleeping bags, roll mats, rucksacks that students can borrow.

Students can walk in trainers- so please don't buy walking boots if they don't already have them.
