Now that we have watched the following documentary on Egypt and taking a great set of SPECIFIC EVIDENCE/DETAILS notes on the video guide we will be practicing using those notes in writing.

Definitions recap!

  • Public works:Projects which are designed by the ruler(s) to benefit all of the people in a civilization.
  • Art and Architecture: Expresses the talents, beliefs, and values of the people who created them.
  • Writing: Developed out of a need to document the amount of grain collected, to track accurate information about the seasons, and to preserve rituals and prayers.

In order to be considered a complex civilization the civilization must express its beliefs through art.

Back it up: Specific evidence to support the argument (Topic sentence - “A” followed by relevant details.

An example of a civilization that used art to express their beliefs is Egypt. In Egypt, they used canopic jars decorated with lids shaped as animals as part of a practice of preparing the pharaoh for the afterlife.
