Overview:Book Promo: reading all/part of a children’s book in the style of Storyline Online (60s - 90s)

Source: KGC book from collection curated by Ms. Parsons

Goal: use your best storytelling voice to entertain younger �students as you PROMOTE your book (all or part)Option: use a book from home, subject to parent approval*

Resources: iMovie, WeVideo, or both; film at iMac/CB, portable green screen OR in the Studio if you are a student in good standing

MUST HAVES :

📖Storyboard plan (your copy of the slide deck)

📖Book info (text) → title & author of the �book, illustrator if given, byline:�“read by: (your full name)�📖a hook/intro before you read*.

📖3-5 images that relate to the story*

📖Elements to make the promo film �entertaining & memorable�📖60s - 90s time limit (from your first words until your ending)

Step 1: Choose your book when your name is selected from name sticks (random). The book will stay in class. ��Step 2: Practice your book at your seat. Read it silently, imagining the acting you will do. Time your performance. �

Step 3: Participate in paired reading. Choose an excerpt from your book and read with a partner (random name stick selection)�

Step 4: Perform an excerpt for the class using your best storytelling voice (participation grade). �

Step 5: Complete the Storytellers Book Promo plan (slide deck)

Preparation:

Step 1: Complete the Storytellers Plan storyboard with a pencil. (project grade)�

Step 2: Set up your film in iMovie or WeVideo. The project will be called “Storytellers Promo.”

Step 3: Record (film) yourself reading the book*: at your iMac, on your Chromebook in a Library room, or in the Studio with a Vixia camcorder **

Step 4: Use your Storytellers film plan to produce your film in iMovie, WeVideo or both.���

Filming:

Ideas*:

  • Book pictures: green screen effect, cutaway, picture in picture, split screen�
  • Compose your own music or create your own artwork (to replace the book picture requirement�
  • Do character voices.�
  • Begin by asking listeners to predict what will happen; ask them to predict the ending if only reading an excerpt; add a quiz at the end.�
