Louise Lawler

Became popular in the 70s and 80s by critiquing other artists, the art industry, how art sells, how it's represented, etc. Her goal is to look beyond the works sphere of influence and alter it by altering the piece.

She will take pictures of other artists work in exhibitions, collectors houses, etc and morph them into entirely different meanings.

Goals:

To make visible what typically remains hidden.

She questioned authorship by taking others art.

She questioned the art system by showing how art is displayed and critiquing it.

And she questioned a viewers perception of art by altering it.

By doing all of this she brought out much more in a piece that would otherwise be looked over.
