Survey: Limitations of Virtual Tours

I wasn’t sure how crowded it would look in the space, or how the proportions would look

Understanding the actual size of rooms since pictures are often taken with wide angle lenses

Sometimes it’s hard to feel that you know the depth of place with a virtual view

7 of 40

7

Hard to get a sense of the apartment when there are lots of tricks being used

Virtual tours don’t show different times of day so I need to go in person

I wish I could easily view at different times of day

Wish I had a 360 view and could place existing furniture in room and drag and drop

Quite a few virtual tours looked different than

in real life

Scheduling multiple in-person tours and adjusting my work schedule is exhausting

User Insight

Busy people seeking relocation need to quickly, conveniently and deliberately determine if a new place is a good fit for their lifestyle because many intangible conditions, such as dimensions, lighting, and aesthetic details of the homes, are typically not captured accurately in listing photos or 3D tours.

WIREFRAMES, TESTING & ITERATIONS

29 of 40

29

Lo-Fi Wireframes and Prototype

  • Our Lo-Fi frames captured the main focal points of our app:
    • an apartment search/preferences and listing function
    • a way to view tour the space in 3D
    • a way to select and place furniture in the virtual model

30 of 40

30

Lo-Fi Usability Tests

  • Following our Lo-Fi usability tests, some key takeaways:
    • URL option not very clear/convenient in that location
    • Rent/Buy/Sell mixes the supply and demand ends of this transaction
    • Better UI options for price range and bed/bath options

31 of 40

31

Mid-Fi Wireframes and Prototype

  • Thus, our Mid-fi frames included updates from the feedback:
    • an updated apartment search/preferences and listing function
    • a sunlight setting and render function
    • an updated furniture placement component that is very interactable

32 of 40

32

Mid-Fi Usability Tests

  • Mid-fi usability tests had these key takeaways:
    • the sunlight and render functions should be separated for clarity
    • better AA readability for text boxes
    • add an image for the different furniture options

34

Mid-Fi A/B Test

A

B

Takeaways:

  • The A version shows more map which is better
  • While B version has a good filtering system, it might not be the most useful there, and the buttons for it are very very small.

35

High-Fi Wireframes and Prototype

  • Our High-Fi frames were then developed with updates from the feedback:
    • an updated apartment search/preferences and listing function
    • a sunlight setting and render function
    • an updated furniture placement component that is very interactable

36 of 40

36

High-Fi Usability Tests

  • Our High-Fi test had some key takeaways:
    • housing type icons are too busy and distracting
    • font size and type need to be very consistent throughout the whole app
    • check on spacing across elements on screens

Final Thoughts

Conclusions:

  • Iterations are key to producing high quality features
  • Components saved our lives

For the Future:

  • Further develop the website
  • Further develop the 3D touring aspect of the app
  • Onboard partners to integrate both users and property management companies
  • Onboard other partners who have technology that will vastly improve this app
