SEL ENDORSMENT

12 credits total (Completely online- primarily asynchronous with some synchronous meetings time. Practicum is field based)

EDU 360: Trauma Informed Approaches in Educational Settings (3 credits): This course will provide educators with understandings of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Trauma, and Mental Illness. Students will explore the impact of these experiences on development and learn about social-emotional learning (SEL). Practical skills such as recognizing signs of distress, de-escalation techniques, and suicide prevention activities will also be covered. YMHFA Training provided in this course at no cost (typically on the 3^rd or 4^th Saturday of the semester, or broken up into two evening trainings on Zoom).

EDU 380: Advocacy, Collaboration and Teamwork for SEL (3 credits): This course focuses on developing collaboration skills with community members to provide realistic and integrated programs around social and emotional learning for all children. Students engage in a variety of group activities that call for the need to analyze group dynamics and implement effective communication strategies in educational settings.

SEL ENDORSMENT

EDU 420: MTSS to Promote Social Emotional Learning (3 credits): This course describes the Multi-Tier System of Support (MTSS) framework and its use for promoting social, emotional, and behavioral wellness in schools. MTSS and the relationship between diagnosis, disability and Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports will also be discussed.

EDU 480: Social-Emotional Learning Practicum (prerequisite: EDU 360; 70-hour field-based practicum) (3 credits): This practicum provides interns experience in promoting SEL and focuses on understanding the importance of SEL, implementing evidence-based strategies, and fostering a positive classroom climate. Interns will apply their knowledge in real-world settings and reflect on experiences to enhance professional practice. Students will spend 70 hours at a placement site. Practicum can be completed in a classroom or organization of employment. Requires some synchronous meeting times in the evening.

SEL ENDORSMENT

Individuals that hold a Level I or Level II instructional, supervisory, educational specialist, or an administrative certificate will be eligible to apply for the PDE PA Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Wellness of PK-12 Students Endorsement after success completion of the program.

Current certified educators can earn Act 48 hours for coursework.

Chatham currently has some scholarships available for this program for individuals to begin the spring of 2024.

Individuals will be responsible for textbooks. Currently, textbooks for the entire program are approximately $50.
