What sound do you hear in the final position of these words?
table thimble bubble
This sound is different from those we have been learning because it contains two sounds. /b/ and /l/
table, thimble, bubble

Right! B-l-e makes the /bul/ the sound we hear in the final position of these words?
“ble” are the letters making that sound?
table thimble bubble
‘Ble’ is something new that we call a final, stable syllable. Why do you think we call it final? (in the final position) Why do you think we call it stable? (doesn’t change). We can count on it making the ble sound in the final position. Why do you think we call it syllable? (has its own vowel sound). The vowel sound we hear is a schwa sound. This is the sound /u/ we hear between the b and the l. THe e we see, doesn’t make a sound and we cross it out.
©sonnysspot
Let’s code these words!
table thimble bubble
Add brackets to the three words. “When you divide ‘bubble’, only one b goes inside the bracket. We crossed double consonants out in the past, but we know by now that we don’t say the sound twice. We don’t need to cross them out anymore. Code the vowels and cross out the silent e.

Echo-
feeble
stuble
stubble
Sometimes you’ll see a digraph in the syllable before the final stable syllable. All you do is bracket off the final, stable syllable, and code the digraph just like you always do. (Code ‘feeble’) . Now show ‘Stuble’. Code it with a macron and read it together. Does this make sense? (no) This vowel needs to be short. What should follow this vowel to make is short? (a consonant). What consonant should I use? (b)

Review:
table thimble
Why didn’t we double the b in table? The ‘a’ needs to be open and accented)
Why not in thimble? (The m keeps the ‘i’ short.)
