Course Information

Welcome to English 9CP! We will focus on various reading skills (such as annotating and analysis), writing (smaller pieces along with argumentative and explanatory essays), discussions (formal and informal), and grammar skills. In order to prepare for college and career readiness, it is important that you have strong time management skills. In order to develop these skills, you will have more than one day on certain assignments; however, since multiple activities will be going on, it is important that you plan and use your time wisely.

Learning Units

Our units involve short stories, poetry, and informational texts along with a Shakespearean play. We will explore how technology impacts our lives for better or worse. We will debate whether revenge can ever be justified along with what is the value of life. We will unravel how authors use certain methods to advance their purposes and reveal their beliefs, and we will find out if love is truly stronger than hate.

  • If you are absent, you still need to complete that day’s assignments as laid out on the weekly agenda found in Canvas.

Absent and Late Work

  • First, there is a difference between absent work and late work, and absent work can eventually turn into late work.
  • If you were here when something was assigned, it is due when you return.
  • It is your responsibility to see what you missed and get the items you missed. Follow the agenda posted on Canvas.
  • Any work submitted after the unit has ended will automatically receive half credit.
  • Major class projects, essays, and assignments will be given a due date. These projects are due on this date. If a student is absent on the due date, these projects are due at the beginning of class the day the student returns. All assignments will be accepted late at a 10 point per day deduction. It is always better to turn in an assignment late than not at all!

Syllabus Signature Slip

  • There is a digital signature section in the Syllabus Scavenger Hunt, which is in Canvas.
