What started it all?

(Adriana) In May of 2022, each of us attend a conference by the name of MYLead at Michigan State University. We didn’t know it then but this conference changed our lives. The conference only lasted 3 days but has made an impact that will last forever.

(Alex) We met new people and made great memories. We heard from stupendous speakers and grew inspired. Days following the conference we all knew we had to make a change. So we met to discuss what we should do to make a true difference in our school

(Kaleigh One activity stood out above all and that is Stand Up for another. We emailed Mr. Sines and presented him with this idea. He approved it and thus began our planning. We will talk more about the details and what this activity is in further slides.

(Noah) We weren’t sure exactly what we wanted to do but it was agreed that mental health issues is a significant issue facing us as well our peers. We reached out to Mrs. Kalpin and she connected us with Mrs. Impelezeri. Who then presented us with the Be Nice. organization

Stand Up for Another.

Adriana- Stand up for another was our kick off to the school year. This was an activity that we ran the last two weeks of October and the first 2 weeks of November. Prior to the activity Surveys were handed out during smart and all students filled them out checking the boxes that applied. These surveys were then given back to us and shuffled. When we held the activity students received a paper that was not their own. Mr. Hogan was called to the stage and read off each statement. If a statement was checked off on the paper a student received they would stand up. This was meant to give different perspectives on issues that our peers are facing. When sitting in the audience or even standing up you could see how many people are facing different situations. Or even how many of your peers are going through what you are going through. This activity was meant to encourage empathy empower everyone to be more mindful to other people’s situations and realize that they are not alone in the troubles they may face. And for us to get more knowledge on what we could focus on as a club.

Winter Wellness.

Noah: Winter, following the holidays of course, is a terrible time for mental health. Many experience seasonal depression, amplified by the stress of finals in January, and SAT in early Spring. To combat this, we decided to host a winter wellness event. We planned tons of activities for all age groups, as well as inviting 8 community resources to outline their place in the community, and how they can provide resources to positively affect mental health. The entire district was invited, and we had great attendance totalling over 300 community members, including students, parents, teachers, administrators, and more.

Our primary goal for this event was to create a positive environment, where community members could take part in relaxing and enjoyable activities while still discovering new resources within their community. We believe we were successful in drawing a large portion of the community out for a free, fun night of activities and learning.
