Integrating OER into undergraduate and graduate capstone courses offers the opportunity to serve learners across disciplines. The Professional Studies degrees are competency-based, allow learners to craft their own individualized learning plan, and use OER as a cost-effective means for providing learning resources.

Outcomes for the Presentation
1. Understand ways OER can be integrated into Capstone courses.
2. Evaluate ways OERs create educational equity.
3. Discuss ways OERs can enhance teaching and learning.

Two Pathways
Learners choose from two online pathways to your bachelor's in professional studies: a term-based program option and a self-paced, independent study option.
Let’s look are the options: https://www.purdueglobal.edu/degree-programs/professional-studies/bachelor-degree-professional-studies/

Learners are able to select courses and design a plan of study suited to individual professional interests. BSPr and ASPr highlights include:
Target Audience

The BSPr and ASPr degrees are designed with self-motivated learners in mind and offers the opportunity to create a customized degree plan to meet learners’ individual professional and academic goals. The open degree program provides learners with the flexibility of learning through resources that come from within and outside PG, both prior to and during the course of the degree.
Capstone Courses
The capstone courses (PR299/PR499/PR599) are the culminating experience for the Associate/Bachelor/Master of Science in Professional Studies. This course builds on the coursework completed throughout the program of study.
The capstone course provides students with the opportunity to integrate and synthesize the knowledge and skills acquired throughout their coursework in an original comprehensive project, and to assess mastery of the program outcomes.

OERs and Equity
OERs help create equity in higher education by reducing the high cost of textbooks. Sources such as OpenStax, which launched in 2012, hosts just shy of 30 textbooks that are freely available and openly licensed, meaning anyone can download the content.
According to Williams (2021), “Besides relieving the pressure of students purchasing pricy textbooks, OERs assist in open education, curriculum design, curation and evaluation, and authoring,” (p.1).

Open Educational Resources: What and Why
This video provides a high-level view into what open educational resources (OER) are and why instructors choose to use or create OER. If you wish to develop more openness in your teaching, check out our other videos on Open Education, or our website for more resources.
