The Problem

Fraudulent Purchases

Every day throughout the entire world, many fraudulent purchases are made using this counterfeit money. This is obviously illegal and unfair, and our app helps to stop this from happening.

Counterfeiters have become increasingly skilled at creating fake currency that can easily deceive an untrained eye, but a counterfeit money detector uses various methods, such as checking dimensions and ultraviolet light, to spot inconsistencies and irregularities in the bills that may not be visible to the naked eye. By using a counterfeit money detector, businesses and individuals can ensure that they are not accepting counterfeit bills, which can lead to significant financial losses and damage to their reputation. In short, a counterfeit money detector provides a simple and effective way to prevent fraudulent purchases and protect against financial fraud.

Inflation

Another issue of the printing of counterfeit money is the inflation that results from it. Fake money is in circulation, and it could be a big cause of inflation.

Inflation occurs when there is an increase in the money supply, which leads to a decrease in the value of currency. Counterfeit money contributes to the money supply, which in turn can lead to inflation. By using a counterfeit money detector, central banks and governments can detect and remove counterfeit bills from circulation, which helps to control the money supply and prevent inflation. This is especially important in developing countries, where counterfeit money can be a significant problem and can have a devastating effect on the economy. Our Solution

Counterfeit Money Detector App for Android

Our app allows users to take or select from their gallery a picture that contains a banknote, and it tells the user whether it’s counterfeit or not. It also includes a help page containing instructions on how to use the app. This was the intended function, however, we ran into difficulties incorporating our Tensorflow Machine Learning Model into the app and have been forced to present them separately. With more time, we would merge the two parts and finish this app.

In the future, we would also like to make this application available to multiple operating systems and not just Android. We can use Flutter or React Native to achieve such goal. We would also try to incorporate multilingual access. This means that we would try to use language APIs to support those who are unable to read English and would rather read something they are more comfortable with. Lastly, we would implement a currency API to provide detection for most if not all currencies
