Idea Development (4pts)

At the beginning of each unit, spend time sketching and coming up with multiple ideas for the project.

Design (4pts)

Final artwork should be designed following the guidelines of the project.

Personal Choice Making and Meaning (4pts)

Artwork should include personal meaning, and choices made by the individual student.

Craftsmanship (4pts)

Using all materials as neatly as possible.

Studio Skills and Practices (4pts)

Using materials the right way, participating in class, exhibiting appropriate behavior, and showing strong effort.

Reflection (4pts)

A written piece that discusses the artwork, sometimes associated with prompts or questions.

  • Help your child schedule a daily practice time.
  • Never use practicing as a punishment. Practicing should be fun!
  • Help your child find a quiet distraction free place to practice and be sure there is good lighting and a wire music stand available for them to use.
  • Become involved with what your child is doing.

  • Encourage your child to always do his or her best.
  • Praise your child for work well done.
  • Help to foster a musical environment in your home.
  • Help your child to persevere. Learning to play an instrument requires a lot of discipline, perseverance, dedication and determination.
