Loans

Graduate students may be eligible for student loans.

Unsubsidized federal direct student loans, with $20,500 annual limit &� $138,500 aggregate limit (includes amount borrowed for undergrad). �

Grad PLUS (unsubsidized loans from Dept of Education, offers up to full cost of attendance).�

Private loans.

Supplemental employment

Assistantships

  • Internal (awarded by university).

  • Two main types:
    • Teaching Assistantship - primarily in support of instruction.
    • Research Assistantship - primarily involves applying and mastering research� concepts, practices, or methods of scholarship.�

  • It’s a job: teaching, research, administrative.

  • Usually provides stipend & coverage of tuition & fees.
