Starting Points for Instruction

English 3D helps you meet your multilingual learners where they are with three options for beginning your instruction.

Language Launch Volume 1

This series of 6 units with 84 interactive lessons supports your newcomer students in learning the social and content-area language that they need to learn English for the first time.

Language Launch Volume 2

The content in this collection of 3 additional Issues focuses on students as language learners and the cultural diversity they bring to their classrooms. Use these Issues flexibly or as an on-ramp to the main path of English 3D instruction to meet the needs of your classroom.

English 3D

The main path of English 3D supports both multilingual learners who are making normative progress, as well as long-term English learners.

Course A and Course B each comprise two volumes with 6 Issues each. Course C has one volume with 8 Issues.

Kick off with Language Launch Volume 2

The Issues in Language Launch Volume 2 prepare students for English 3D instruction with resources that leverage the rich experiences and knowledge your multilingual learners bring to the classroom.

What is Language Launch Volume 2?

A collection of three Issues that prepare students for English 3D while validating their unique perspectives as multilingual learners. The Issues are the same whether you teach English 3D Course A, B, or C. Each Issue takes about five weeks to complete.

  1. Are You Your Name?
  2. Keeping Languages Alive
  3. Your Brain and Language

When should I use it?

Use Language Launch as an on-ramp to prepare your students for English 3D. The three Issues fit perfectly as a semester-long course before teaching the main path of English 3D.

If your students are ready for English 3D, refer to the Selecting an Implementation Model page in your Language Launch Teaching Guide overview for additional options.

How does it support my multilingual learners?

The content in Language Launch focuses on relevant topics and texts that activate prior knowledge, connect to content areas, and build a community of language learners.

Becoming familiar with the structure of Language Launch lessons and the routines that support these lessons helps set students up for success with their main English 3D pathway.

The Language Launch Volume 2 Teaching Guide has four sections for all your planning and teaching needs.

Your Planning Guides provide an overview of each Issue, allowing you to see all the components of each lesson in one place.

The Overview provides information about the program structure, implementation options, and how to best leverage student assets.

Four Essential Routines support you in structuring instruction that ensures your students are engaged and successful. These routines are similar to those found in English 3D, but are pared down to provide focused support.
