Download the help desk video and open Adobe Premiere Pro.

Create the file through Adobe Premiere Pro. Save the SRT text-based file.

Watch the video and edit the file to match video timing, as well as check grammar, spelling, etc.

Save the edited SRT file.

Four SRT File Creation Steps

TUTORIAL:

SRT File Creation in

Adobe Premiere Pro

Say: “I will be showing you a quick tutorial on the basics of Adobe Premiere Pro, and how to pull an SRT file from an existing video. We’ll then go over what to look for in editing an SRT file, and I show you specifically how to edit the SRT files after that.”

Follow the tutorial steps 1-15, and 23-25 in the PDF Participant Handout (How to Create an SRT from a Video File) to show participants:

-The general layout of Adobe Premiere Pro (for those new to the program)

-The process of importing a video and pulling the SRT file

(You will stop after this before the editing phase to discuss what to look for in the editing phase.)

Knowledge Check:

Say: “We’re going to do a quick Show and Tell. I’ll ask one person to recap the main steps of creating an SRT file in Premiere Pro, and as they tell us the steps, I’ll show them on the main screen. This is not a test and is only for our learning purposes. If you get stuck, we will help you! Who is brave enough to walk us through the SRT file creation process?”

Answer/Steps to Cover:

-New Project

-Name it/Click Create

-Import the video clip into the Timeline

-In the Captions and Graphics workspace, click Create Transcription

-Click Transcribe

-Click the 3 Dots, then Create Captions x2

-You should see the correct SRT formatting in the captions area

-Click the 3 Dots

-Export, then Export to SRT file

-Save

(Keep sharing your screen of Premiere Pro and as they tell the group the steps, you show them. Stop them if they miss a step and add it in.)

(You can call on someone specific or ask for volunteers. If no one volunteers, ask the most knowledgeable person about Premiere Pro to do it for you. If they decline, go over the steps yourself.)

In the Chat, use one or more emojis to share:

Say: “For the last part of our training, we are going to do a synthesis activity so that we can reflect on our training today. In the chat (or using the Reaction button), share one or more emojis that tell one of these three things: (Read on screen text boxes).

Share: “My example is at the bottom of the screen. I chose a person speaking emoji and an ear emoji. This represents the tip about listening to the speaker’s pauses to determine where punctuation should go.”

Download the video.

Step 2:

Use Adobe Premiere Pro to create the SRT file.

Step 3:

Edit the SRT file to match the video’s audio exactly.

Step 4:

Save the edited SRT file.

Read the steps on the screen to review the SRT file creation process

Show your screen and Remind participants about the PDF with the steps of the process. Share the link in the chat.

Say: “I will email this PDF to you after our training today, or you can find a link to it in the chat.”

Ask: “Are there any other questions you have about SRT files, file creation or editing?”

Confidence Check:

Say: “Give me a thumbs up if you feel like you can confidently create an SRT file with the support documentation and video I provided today. A thumbs to the side if you’re feeling ok about it, or a thumbs down if you’re still feeling lost.”
