It is the Day of the patron saint of Scotland, Greece, Romania, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

It is celebrated on the 30th of November.

The celebration of the New Year in Scotland is called Hogmanay (it is the Scots word for the last day of the year).

There are many customs associated with Hogmanay. One of them is the ‘First Footing’ tradition. The ‘first foot’ in the friend’s or neighbour’s house after midnight is still very common is Scotland. Traditionally, a first footer should be a tall dark-haired male to bring good luck to the householder.
