  • To describe the experience of implementing the Bibliographic Management System (Leganto©) and its integration with UPC’s Learning Management System (BlackBoard©).
  • To examine the current course bibliography management process and its results.
  • To show the results of the use of Leganto© and its advantages in accessing the mandatory bibliography, even more so, during the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • The Library System is part of the Knowledge Management Division, which in turn belongs to the Academic and Research Vice-Rector's Office.

The needs

  • Secure the access and availability of the resources that were part of the mandatory bibliography of the courses.

  • Allow faculty to include as part of the bibliography, documents and resources subscribed by the library (printed, digital) and open access academic material.

  • Adapt the content of the bibliography to the "Education by competences" model.

  • Analyze the use of the resources that are part of the bibliography by courses, academic programs and the different user's typology: students, faculty, freshmen students, senior students, etc.

  • Integrate the bibliography into the Academic Systems of the UPC (e-syllable manager and the Virtual Classroom - Blackboard).

At the beginning of 2020-01, we had a digital availability of 91.15% (13,335) and 8.84% (1,302) pending digitization. At the beginning of the 2021-02 cycle, 99.9% of the literature was available.�

  • The integration of Leganto with the academic systems of the University has made it possible to guarantee the digital availability of the bibliography of the courses; as well as provide easy access to e-Bibliography from the Student's Virtual Classroom (Blackboard).

  • Leganto's usage statistics demonstrate sustained growth from its implementation through 2019; however, in the wake of the pandemic and virtual education, the use (number of full text views) increased by more than 700% in 2020-1. During this 2021-1 it increased by 26% compared to the previous year.

  • The platform of Alma and Leganto have allowed to manage the bibliography according to the Education by competences" model
