RENAISSANCE

AN ERA CENTERED ON PEOPLE AND ART

2 of 5

Renaissance struck the world. The era of ignorance, misery (Middle Ages) ended and the period of flourishing of intellect, thought and arts began.

There were no longer prejudice and fear.

The people began to think differently as they started

studying the ancient Greek philosophy, science

and art. This is how the art was regenerated.

An art of realism. Well-to-do people paid handsomely,

so painters did their best to get as close to

reality as possible in their works.

Mostly the people of the church ,

who were most rich at that time,

were embracing painters to paint

different religious events.

The Popes paid a lot of money to the most

brilliant painters , architects and sculptors

in order to decorate the Vatican buildings

, like Michelangelo ,Raphael. In every prosperous

city of Italy, the governors paid tons of money to the most significant artists,

like Brunelleschi in Florence , who constructed

the famous Duomo , the Metropolis of the city.

Also, Sandro Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Fra Angelico etc.

RENAISSANCE IN ITALY - FLORENCE

The artists of Italy tried to understand the world with logic by using mathematics. Unlike the Dutch who tried to reach all the mysteries by painting with the slightest details. They were focusing so much at what they were watching in order to paint perfect realistic works. Also, they used their experience and realized that the paintings look differently from the point from which they see them. Some of them are Jan Van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, Joachim Patinir etc
