DESCRIPTION:

During this workshop, young participants will assemble a portable solar oven using cardboard and reflective vinyl. They will put their creation to the test by cooking a delicious breakfast meal using the power of the sun.

DESIGN CHALLENGE:

Sameera is planning to camp in the desert with her family over the weekend. She has prepared some delicious meals and is also planning to cook eggs for breakfast while camping. Your task is to help Sameera build a Solar powered Oven so she can heat the food and cook some eggs!

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:�After attending this session, participants will be able to:

MATERIALS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Make a Solar Oven: Introduce them to all the items provided to create a Solar Oven
  • Step 1: Attach Velcro pieces to the cardboard
  • Step 2: Attach Velcro pieces to the PVC Vinyl
  • Step 3: Fold the cardboard using the score as a guide
  • Step 4: Stick aluminum tape on the inner side of the Solar Oven
  • Step 5: Attach the pins to hold the Solar Oven in shape
  • Step 6: Attach the Clear PVC vinyl to the Solar Oven
  • Step 7: Dismantle the Solar Oven, and fold it to be compact and portable
