Mascot Selection Process: Objective

Select a new mascot that embodies the Mahopac spirit, provides school district recognition, and invokes pride and enthusiasm.

Procedure

  • Create a mascot selection committee consisting of approximately 60 individuals representing diverse perspectives within the Mahopac community (January)
  • Mascot selection committee meets (February - April)
  • Committee narrows to several choices (April)
  • K - 12 students vote on new mascot (May 16, 2023)
  • Subcommittee presents process at May 18, 2023 BOE meeting
    • New mascot selection is announced and recommended to the BOE for adoption
  • If necessary, logo is created to support mascot (Summer 2023)
  • Logo is announced (September 2023)

  • Invite community to provide data, views, or arguments regarding NYSED’s regulation on the mascot during the public comment period which closes on February 28, 2023
