BUSINESS PROCESS MODELING

Business Process Modeling is a key aspect of automating and operationalizing Communication Service Providers’ products and services.

Software automation is based on the principal of repeatable and well-structured business processes.

Process models are composed of a series of Process Flows woven together to form an end-to-end product or service lifecycle.

Process Flows are composed of Business Process Elements, which are often based on Standards.

INFORMATION & DATA MODELING

Information Modeling identifies the information and data which flows through the defined Business Process Flows.

A concise Information Model is used to model information within components as well as interfaces between components.

Common Information Models used across the end-to-end product and service lifecycle provide a cohesive, non-duplicative view of the data within and across systems.

Information Models may define both the static/structural and dynamic/behavioral views of a solution.

Data models are protocol-specific implementations of Information Models.

INTERFACES

INTERFACE DEFINITIONS

Interfaces exist across components in a cloud-native micro-services architecture.

Interface definitions model the dynamic behavior between components including what one component provides another.

Protocol agnostic interface definitions provide the high-level design and requirements for protocol specific interface specifications (e.g., RESTful web services).

Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are commonly used in interface specifications and carry Data Model payloads.

Security considerations such as how an interface should be secured based on the use cases identified.

API SPECIFICATIONS

APIs include a set of routines, protocols and tools for building software applications and specify how software components should interact.

RESTful APIs are APIs that use HTTP requests (stateless client-server model) to manipulate data and are often used for interactions with cloud services.

Interface Description Languages, such as the RESTful API Description Language specified by Open API Specification, provide a structured description of a RESTful web API that is useful both to a human and for automated machine processing.

APIs are a product!
