Materials Management Conservation Plan

In 2020 Georgia Tech contracted Cascadia Consulting group to develop an MMCP. The goal was to identify opportunities to achieve improved diversion performance while optimizing GT’s material management system and incorporate the recommendations into a robust plan.

Conclusions

Operations & Stream Complexity

Staff training and equipment purchases for Landscape could shift to on-site yard waste management. Change would require training for 45 people instead of 55,000 football fans

Invoicing & Data Collection

Through analyzing data, changes to the WM invoice have added clarity and improve resiliency by sorting accounts by generator. Future work will continue to maintain the dashboard & explore estimates

Daily Pounds Per Capita

Campus total per capita was 2.7 which is lower than the EPA 4.5 estimate. Fluctuations in generator group, Housing vs. Greek Sector

Time of Year

Housing sees peaks during August and May, additional resources for move-in recycling and move-out donations should be allocated
