  • I got interested in this program because I want to bring awareness among the new generation about caste discrimination
  • Witnessed caste based discrimination regarding opportunities, social gathering, etc.

Problem Statement

The project aims to aware the new generation about the caste discrimination and also aware the people from the Dalit community about opportunities that exist.

  • The number is prominent among Dalit Females

“Let’s put a fullstop to Caste discrimination from our very own level”

  • I gave the session about caste discrimination to 23 students whose age ranges 10-16.
  • Today’s students are the future of the nation .Old generation have the negative concept with deep rooted mind about the problem. So,If we try to aware the new generation this problem could be addressed and solved from our own place and community.
  • Therefore,If we are putting a fullstop to caste discrimination in the younger age group, it would not continuty.

  • Took permission from the principal to organise the session in Shree Shitaladevi Secondary School.

Impact - Started a Formal Conversation around Caste Discrimation (Reached 23 students)

  • Created a safe space for sharing their experience
  • 2 students are committed to organize sessions for the parents
  • 23 students suggested potential solution about Inter-caste marriages

Impact 1: Created a Safe Space

  • I created a safe space for them to share their story or things which they saw related to caste discrimination.
  • I was able to aware them about the discrimination
  • I encouraged them to organize different program like street drama,giving the session to the parents for decreasing the problem from their own place and position.

Many students shared their experience.

    • Gita said “When I am going to work in (khet) and at the time of eating (khaja)Dalit people are sitting far from us and eating food.”
    • They have seen discrinination in many places and they try to told the people to do not to discriminate other but no one listen them.

Impact 2: Students’ Commitment

2 students have committed to addressing caste discrimination

Ashok Tamang said “I will share my knowledge to all people and suggest them to not give continuity to caste discrimination.”

Saraswoti Dahal said “I will approach some organization working to tackle caste discrimination and other social issues and organize session to the all parents in my village.”

Most students discussed intercaste marriage as a way to break the caste system

What I learned?

I learned many things from this project.Some are in following points:

  1. Learning more about caste discrimination
  2. Built confidence
  3. Learned to use tools like canva, slack, google drive
  4. Communication skill

If I had more time, I would

  • Street drama
  • Go to the society on my own to know the present status of the problem in the society and create community level solutions.
