  • Using the link below, make yourself a copy of the worksheet and use as a place to record your login and password information for FAFSA

  • It will be important that you know where to find this information each year that you are enrolled in postsecondary education

First Step: Create an FSA ID

1. Go to: studentaid.gov or use the link below.

2. Click on “Create Account”

Contact Information

  1. Create/Use a personal email address. Do not use your MCSD gmail account.

  • Be sure to record the email address and phone number that is used to create the account.

Challenge Questions

  1. Complete the four challenge questions and answers.
  2. Record the information on your log in document.
  3. This information will be necessary if you need to recover your username or password.

Verifying Your Account

  • You will want to verify your account by both email and phone number
  • Click the box that says “Verify” and then enter the code for each
  • Once you have entered both and clicked “Continue”, you will be provided a Backup Code
  • Record the Backup Code on your google doc and click that you have stored it

And you are all set!

Creating a Parent FSA ID

  1. If you are the parent of a dependent student, you will need to create your own FSA ID. Only one ID needs to be created.
  2. If you have more than one child attending college, you can use the same FSA ID to sign all FAFSA applications.
  3. Or, if you have recently completed a FAFSA for yourself, that FSA ID will be used as your parent FSA ID.

Preparing to File Your FAFSA

  • FAFSA opens on October 1st and must be completed each year that a student plans to be enrolled.

  • FAFSA is completed using taxes from two years prior to enrollment.

  • For entrance Fall 2023, families will use their 2021 tax returns and W2s, student 2021 tax returns and W2s, parent and student driver’s license numbers, balance of checking, savings and investment accounts.

MHS will be hosting a FAFSA Completion Event on Monday, October 17th from 4:00-7:00 pm and Wednesday, October 19th from 4:00-7:00 pm.

Families will be met in the MHS Student Services Office. To schedule an appointment call: 563-264-8637 ext 3573.

Please let us know if a translator is helpful.

Families will need to bring:

  • 2021 Tax Returns (Parent and Student)
  • Parent and Student FSA IDs
  • 2021 W2s (Parent and Student)
  • Driver’s License Numbers
  • On hand balances of checking, savings and investment accounts
