Use this opportunity to also use the restroom and cool off!

-Have students form small groups of 2-3.

-Students will start off with a dice. If students roll an even number they get to collect 2 cups. Students will keep trying to collect cups and build the highest cup tower before the end of the round. Give students about 8-10 minutes to try and build the highest cup tower. At the very end if there is time, have students try to build the tallest cup pyramid as an entire class! Please remind them not to crash into the cups because they will make the cups crack.

Station 3-Tag Games

Favorite Tag Games or Run across Games you can play

  1. Red Light, Green Light-Red light means stop, Green Light means Go, Yellow light means slow or walk. If the student moves on red light or does not follow the correct direction they must go back to start. (4K-2)
  2. Mr. Fox, Mr. Fox-Choose 1 student to be the fox at the other end of the field. All other students are lined up on the opposite end. Students will call out, “Mr. Fox, Mr. Fox, What time is it?” The fox will reply with a time. Students will then take that number of steps. If the fox calls out “lunchtime” all students will have to return back to their side before getting tagged by the Fox. Choose a new fox every round. If they don’t get tagged they win. (4K-1)
  3. Sleeping Giant-Choose 1 student to be the sleeping giant at the other end of the field. All students are lined up on the opposite end. The sleeping giant will face the opposite direction. As the sleeping giant is turned away, the rest of the students will sneak across to get closer to the sleeping giant. As soon as the sleeping giant turns around students must freeze. If caught moving, the students will have to go back to the beginning. When the instructor yells “THE SLEEPING GIANT IS AWAKE! RUN!” students must run back to the start line. If they don’t get tagged they win! (4k-2nd)
  4. Fruit Salad Tag-Assign one tagger who begins in the middle. Divide the group into 3 different fruits (Apple, Banana, Coconut). If the tagger calls out your fruit, you must run across the field to the other side without getting tagged. If tagged, you become a tagger as well. If the Tagger calls out Fruit Salad, then everybody runs across to the other side. Once everyone makes it to the otherside do another round. (K-5)
  5. Everybody’s It Tag-every person is it. If you get tagged, you take a seat. You can enter back into the game next round. If you and a person tag each other simultaneously, then both sit down. (K-5)
  6. Sharks and Minnows-Choose one person to start off as a shark. When a shark yells go, students must run from one side of the playing field to the other without getting tagged. If they are tagged, you become a shark. (K-5)

Station 4-Tug-of-War

  1. First split up the kids into teams of 2 or 3.
  2. Students will first do tug-of-war with their team of 2 or 3 people. If they win they stay. If they lose they go to the end of their line.
  3. After you have had all of the students go and declared a winner, now split up the class into 2 different teams and have them compete against each other. (Boys vs Girls, odds vs evens, however you want to split them up)

LOCATION: Soccer Fields

10 of 31

Station 5-Capture the Flag/Flag Grab

4K-2-Have everyone put on flag belts. Everyone for themselves. Try to grab as many flags as possible. See which person has collected the most flags. Then you can split into two teams (green vs yellow or boys vs girls).

3rd-5th-Split the class up into two different groups. One group put on green belts. The other group yellow belts. If they cross the middle line, students can get their flags pulled by the opposing team. If your flag is pulled, sit down in the spot it was pulled. You can get back in the game once a player from your team rescues you and you get a free walk back to your side. Once the flag is captured and brought back to your team’s side, you win the round. Restart the game and play again!

LOCATION: Soccer Fields

Station 6 -Relay Races

-Split the class evenly into 2-4 teams. Do each race 1-2x

1)Relay Race 1-Race down to the cone and back. Give the next person in line a high five. First team to have all members down and back win.

2) Relay Race 2-Race down to the cone and back. This time grab the person’s hand in line and now there are 2 people running down and back. Then do this so there is 3, then 4, etc. First team to complete this challenge wins!

3) Donut Delivery Relay Race-Each person grabs a small pool noodle. They must try to deliver the “donut” (deck ring) from one side of the field to the other. Once students have the donut, they are not allowed to take any steps. Their team must run ahead of the person with the donut to use their pool noodle to pass the donut along. If their donut touches the ground they must go back to the start line.

4) Waffle Ball Throw Race-Students will now have to throw and catch their ball to be the first group to bring their ball down and back without dropping it. If you drop the ball you must start back at the beginning. If you have the ball you cannot take any steps. All people in your group must touch the ball.

5)Soccer Ball Dribbling Relay-first student in line must dribble their soccer ball down and around a cone and come back to give the next person on their team the soccer ball.

Station 7-Parachute/Face Painting

-Start off by having students be in charge of holding one color. This will be an easy way to organize them and group them into activities. Students can take turn getting face painted with Mrs. Hayden and her helpers!.

Activity 1-Make small waves and big waves

Activity 2-Lift the parachute up and have students go under the parachute by color groups. They must go under and find a new spot (same color).

Activity 3-Have students shake the parachute while sitting down and call out colors to swim on top of parachute as waves are being made by rest of the students.

Activity 4-Trap air on the inside of parachute to make a large mountain by students sitting or laying down on outside of the parachute.. Call different colored groups to “climb the mountain” by crawling on top of the inflated parachute.

Activity 5-Trap air on the inside of parachute and have students sit on the inside of the parachute to make a house.

Activity 6-Cat and mouse game-choose 1-2 cats to close their eyes on top of the parachute. Choose 3 mice to crawl under the parachute. On the signal “go” have the mice crawl around avoiding the cats crawling on top of parachute. All other students will be creating waves to make it difficult for cats to find the mice. If a mouse is tagged, they simply join the outside students shaking the parachute until the round is over.

Activity 7-Sharks and Lifeguards-students are sitting down with their legs underneath the parachute. Select 2 students to be lifeguards. Choose 2 students to start off being sharks. On “go” sharks will try to pull students under the parachute. Students will need to yell for help so the lifeguards can try to rescue them. Once a student is pulled all of the way under the parachute, they are now a shark as well.

Station 10-Drip, Drip, Pour

This game is very similar to duck, duck, goose. Students will sit in a circle with one person standing and walking around the perimeter of the circle. The student will have a cup of water and will go around the circle saying “drip” and dripping each student with water on their head. When the student says “pour”, the student will pour the rest of the water over that person’s head while running around the circle trying to make sure they don’t get tagged.

LOCATION: Middle School Playground Grass Area

16 of 31

Station 11-Pass the Water Relay

Pass the water relay-Create 4 teams with your students. Students will each need a cup. Students will need to form a line between the beginning water bucket and to the end. The goal is for students to pass the water from one end to the other end by pouring their water into the next person’s cup. Have 4K-2 students turn sideways to pass the water into the next person’s cup. Have 3rd-5th grade students pass the water by reaching up over the head and behind them without looking at their partner. The team with the most filled bucket wins.

LOCATION: Middle School Playground Grass Area

17 of 31

Station 12-Chalk Station/Basketball Knockout

2nd-5th Graders KNOCKOUT BASKETBALL GAME-Everyone forms one line behind the cone a few feet behind the foul line, facing the basket. The first two players in line get a ball. The point of the game is for the second player to make a basket before the person in front of them. The first player takes their first shot from the foul line. As soon as the first player attempts the first shot, the second player may attempt a shot from the foul line. If a player misses their first shot from the foul line, they may then rebound and shoot from anywhere on the court. Both players are trying to be the first to make a basket. If the second player makes it before the first player, the first player in line was "knocked out. Both players pass their balls to the front of the line and then walk to the end of the line. If first player makes a basket first, while the player second player continues shooting. The first layer passes the ball to the next person in line and goes to the end of the line. The next person in line shoots a foul shot, now trying to a basket before the player still on the court. Once a player scores or is knocked out they should pass their ball to the next person in line as quickly as possible.

K-1st Graders-If they are able to make a basket at that height, have people who are willing to play a shooting game called Race to 5. Split the group up into 2 even teams. Have them start from the same spot on opposite sides. First person from each team shoots the ball and then gives their ball to the next person in line. If they make the ball their team gets a point. If they shoot and miss, they grab their rebound and give it to the next person in line.

If you don’t feel like playing basketball or get knocked out, use your creativity and have some time to draw with chalk. Create an obstacle course, or hopscotch or a cool picture!

Location: Kickball Court/Basketball Hoops Elementary Area

Station 13-GaGa Ball

All the students should know how to play Gaga Ball. Restart the game every 3-5 minutes so you don’t have too much standing or sitting around. Whoever is in at the time you reset the game they earn a “point”.

Location: Elementary Gaga Pit

Station 13-SPUD

  • Line students up and give each their own number to remember.
  • Students often forget their number so ask them to repeat it back to you to make sure they remember.
  • Explain the rules and ask for students to explain it back to you.
  • Review Dodgeball safety rules, especially throwing only below the waist.
  • Teach and fairly enforce a consequence for throwing above the waist.
  • Gather everyone around you to begin.
  • With everyone standing close to you, throw the ball straight into the air while shouting out one of the student’s numbers.
  • The student whose number has been called quickly gets the ball and shouts “SPUD” as soon as they touch it.
  • All other students run away until they hear “SPUD.”
  • When they hear “SPUD,” the student with the ball may then take four steps, spelling “S”, “P”, “U”, “D” with each step towards any other student.
  • S/he may then roll or throw the ball at a student, trying to hit below the waist.
  • The frozen student cannot move their feet, but may try to catch the ball or evade with their upper body.
  • If the student is hit with the ball, they get a letter (i.e. “S”).
  • If they catch it or the thrower misses, the thrower gets a letter.
  • Whichever student received a letter gets to begin the next round by throwing the ball up and shouting a new number.
  • If a student gets all four letters (SPUD) they are out and get to do a task (i.e. jumping jacks) to get back into the game.

  • Level 4 – blindfold one person, build a hut, verbally direct them through the hut
  • Level 5-build a hula hut, carry the hula hut back to the start without it breaking and set it down.
  • CHALLENGE-See if you can stack 2-3 hula huts on top of each other.

Location: Next to Elementary Playground

Station 15-Kickball/Base Running Relay Station

4K-5th Grade-Base Running Relay-Divide your team up into 2 groups, send one group to second base and one group to home plate. Once your teams are divided equally give each team a baseball. Each team starts and ends their relay at their respective bases passing the softball to the next runner. Each team races around the bases until every kid has participated in the relay. Have them do this activity 1-2 times.

4k-5k-Keep the group split into two different teams. Each student should get a chance to kick without worrying about getting out. After a student kicks the ball off of the deck ring, they see how many bases they can touch before the ball is fielded and placed into the basket. After the entire team kicks, switch jobs for the other team to kick!

1st-5th Grade-Kickball Games-Play normal kickball rules!

Location: Behind the playground on grass field

22 of 31

Station 16-Hula Hoop Houdini/Rock, Paper, Scissors Showdown/Hula Hoop Contest

Hula Hoop Houdini-Have the class split into two groups. Each group should form a circle, connecting hands with the people next to them. The object of the game is to see how quickly you can move a hoop around the circle without letting go of your hands. Have the groups race against each other. If you don’t have enough students to form two groups, use one large group and have them race to get it around the circle within a certain amount of time.

Hula Hoop Contest-Who can hula hoop the longest around their waist? If it becomes to long, add complexity to the contest like adding a hula hoop.

Rock, Paper Scissors Showdown

Divide your players evenly into two teams and send each team to line up at either end of the hula hoop trail. Then you’re ready to start the game! Let’s say on Team 1 we have Simon at the front of the line, and on Team 2 we have Mary. At “go,” Simon and Mary start hopping down the hula hoop trail, landing once in each hula hoop. When they meet each other, they play a quick round of rock-paper-scissors. (If they tie, they play again quickly until someone wins.)

Say Mary wins. The loser of rock-paper-scissors (Simon) then leaves the hula hoop trail, going back to the end of his team’s line. Mary gets to continue hopping up the hula hoop trail, trying to get to the opposing team’s starting point.

As soon as Simon leaves the trail, the next player in Team 1’s line (we’ll call him Jacob) starts hopping down the trail. When Mary and Jacob meet, they play rock-paper-scissors. Say Mary wins. Then Mary continues hopping down the trail, Jacob goes to the end of his team’s line, and Jacob’s team sends another player hopping right away.

The game ends when someone reaches the end of the hula hoop trail (the starting point for the other team).

Station 17 -Cone Hole (corn hole)

  • Have students play 1 v1 or 2 v2.
  • Students will toss their bean bags into the opposing teams hula hoop or cone. If a student lands it in the hula hoop they get 1 point. If the bean bag lands on the cone partly or anyway it counts as 2 points. If it goes into the cone it is 3 points.
  • Have the students rotate and play different people every 3-5 minutes.

LOCATION: Front By Flag Poles

24 of 31

Station 18-Scoop Savers

4K-2-Assign each student a partner. Those partners will work together with one of the two teams. Have one team start on one mat, and the other team begins on the other mat. Have all the polyspots spread out around the mats. One student from the partnership will go out and try and catch a ball on a dot with their scoop. If successful they will bring the spot back to their team’s mat. After they had an opportunity to try and catch the ball, the other partner will go out on a spot to try and catch it. The team with the most poly spots win! Play 2 rounds and give them free time with the scoops.

4k-2-Toss and Catch Game-With a partner, toss the ball and catch it. If caught, take a step back. If not caught try again. Team who can catch it the farthest away win!

3rd-5th Grade Students Have your class split up into 2 different teams. Each team starts with all players on a mat in “jail” with their scoops. Choose 1 person from each team who starts on the opposite side of their team. They will try to throw a ball over so a teammate can catch a ball with their scoop while having one foot on a mat. If they catch the ball with their scoop, they come to the rescue side to help rescue more of their teammates. First team to have all their teammates rescued will win.
