The Cold War

The Cold War was a power struggle between the two biggest superpowers in the world at the time the United States of America and the USSR or modern day Russia. The Cold War lasted over 40 years and involved many other countries in not only Europe but also in North America with Cuba becoming involved in the middle of the Cold War

Why do we refer to the conflict between the USA and the USSR as the“Cold War”?

Why the Cold War?

Why do we call this the “Cold War”?

For the most part the United States and the USSR were peaceful, however, after the end of World War II the USSR and the United States began not fighting directly with weapons but instead began sending each other threats of war but no war between the two powers actually broke out but the possibility loomed over the world with the threat of war which is way people refer to the war as being “Cold”

Causes of the Cold War

What were some of the initial causes of the Cold War?

While there are many causes of the Cold War most of the reasons come from ideological disagreements from each government. While the United States was a democracy the USSR was the complete opposite and ran a Socialist government. Some of the issues also came from the discovery of nuclear weapons during World War II, after the United States dropped the atomic bombs on Japan the USSR saw this as a threat to their national security.

What is Socialism and what is Democracy?

Socialism is the act of the people owning the means of production as well as the distribution of goods and services and should be regulated as a whole

Democracy is the complete opposite of socialism. A democracy is ran by the free market and the people dictate how the market is ran rather than the people fully owning the means of production and goods. The people actually dictate how the market is doing.
