Introduction

  • Parking on school property is a privilege.
  • Must follow all traffic rules and school policies
  • Students who are granted parking will be charged a one time fee of $30.00 non-refundable. This fee will cover first and second semester. All collected fees go toward property or parking related expenses. Additional stickers are available for $5.00.
  • Each high school principal determines the number of spaces on school premises that are designated for students, the procedures for allocating the spaces and the policies governing parking in alignment with AACPS Code of Student Conduct. AACPS Policy JGA: Student Parking at High Schools and AACPS Regulation JGA-RA (906.01): Student Parking at High Schools.

Qualifications for Seniors

  • Must be a senior and have earned 18 credits
  • Must have a minimum cumulative, unweighted, GPA of 2.0
  • Must owe no student obligations including class dues
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance
  • Must have access to a family car on a regular basis
  • Must have completed Southern’s Parking Quiz
  • Must have completed the online application

Qualifications for Juniors

  • Must be a junior and have earned 13 credits

  • Must have a minimum

cumulative, unweighted, GPA of 2.0

  • Must owe no student obligations including class dues

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

  • Must have access to a car on a regular basis

  • Must completed the Southern’s Parking Quiz

  • Must have completed the online application

  • Juniors will park in the lower lot or risk being towed.

Expectations of the Students

  • Must provide factual documentation.
  • Must drive only the registered vehicle(s).
  • Must enter and exit through the main entrance ONLY (during school day)
  • Must remain in school during their scheduled day. Students need administrative approval to go to their cars.
  • Must arrive to school on time. A student’s privilege to park on school property may be revoked if a student is consistently tardy to school.
  • Must be responsible when driving on school property.

Expectations of the Students

  • Must display parking sticker. Students need to communicate with the administrator who oversees parking if there is an issue with their parking permits on any given day. Students are not to lend their permits to anyone. Students are not to be in possession of a permit that is not assigned to them. Students and parents should know that student’s vehicle may be towed at the owner’s expense.
  • Students are responsible for their car and its contents while on school property.
  • Juniors are to park in the lower lot.

**Students who do not have a sticker or parking in the wrong lot may be towed.

Consequences:

Students who are not adhering to their responsibilities may receive disciplinary consequences by administration according to the AACPS Student Code of Conduct; may lose their parking privilege; may have their vehicle towed at the expense of the owner; may have fines imposed; and/or may have their parking permit revoked.
