Opening Statement Example:

Pro School Uniforms

School uniforms have been a long debated topic among public schools in the United States. Uniforms started traditionally as a way for private schools to define and separate themselves from others. Through history it has been proven that segregating individual groups leads to discrimination and violence. It would be best if every student had an even playing field from day 1 of their education. With an ever changing environment of safety concerns, evening the playing field for all individuals, and ease of enforcing school rules, all schools should require school uniforms.

Opening Statement Example:

Con School Uniforms

School Uniforms have been around for many decades. These uniforms have been used to physically show the difference between the upper class citizens attending private schools and the lower class citizens attending public schools. Students should have a right to express themselves through their clothing, parents should be able to shop where they can afford, and there should not be a separation between social classes. For these reasons, schools uniforms should not be allowed in any school.

Closing Example:

Pro School Uniforms

Safety is a large concern in schools, everyone needs to be treated fairly no matter their home life status, and schools can enforce rules more fairly if each student was wearing the same thing. Students can express themselves in many ways, so that is a minor argument in the debate. By demanding all students wear school uniforms, the school is helping to battle racism, gangs, and segregation among the students.

Closing Example:

Con School Uniforms

School uniforms should not be a requirement because this dictates where parents shop, limits expression of student individuality, and encourages separation of social classes by forcing families to ask for monetary assistance. School uniforms are not going to reform violent students, so there are better solutions to the idea of violence. In a world where we are taught to accept everyone for who they are, school uniforms does the exact opposite and squashes the fight for individuality.
